Remember these shows are not for car buyers, they are for reporters

The car buyers aren't invited to press days, and the press (generally speaking) is least likely to buy a new vehicle, either because they get free loaners regularly, or because they are jaded about the whole subject.

It's true there are plenty of camera operators and related techs at these events, but by and large all the excitement, food, and drinks are to keep the blood sugar levels up for "the press" and other influential people, such as collectors (of sports cars) and celebrities..

I think there are several categories of people involved - models or celebs, who add appeal to photos of the cars, executives of the brand, and PR hostesses and hosts.

The PR women or hosts & hostesses tend to be very knowledgeable about the brand they work for and its vehicles, and relay the message tirelessly during the remainder of the weekend, week or whatever.

Here are some brand execs and designers.

President of Lincoln

A Cadillac marketing person

Peter Horbury who designed generations of Volvos and is now off training designers in China.

A bunch of students currently at the Pasadena ArtCenter College of Design

The technical guys

A hostess patiently explaining the nuances of this Infinit concept car

Porsche Brand Hostesses

A celebrity musician (I think) speaking about Lotus

Less famous, but classy combo in the Lincoln booth

More celebs waiting in the wings to tout the products

The "scrum"

There is a big difference between looking at a pretty woman

and attacking her or leveraging her employment for your own personal gain or pleasure.

Yes, that's true.

But the women in the pictures you posted are being "used". No crime, but still objectification.

I for one....

am happy that the level of objectification of women in the business has gone down considerably. Obviously, I love seeing pretty women but I detest them being used as some kind of a bait for commercial reasons . I likewise think that the best tactic is hav...

Take away all the marketing, the pretty ladies, the food, and the alcohol. Just show me an incredible machine that I would want to own, and something of quality that I would want to keep for a very long time. And I'll flock over. Then again... I understan...

Those press day parties were quite spectacular. I still remember some of them as one had talented people on unusual custom-built super tall bicycles with drink racks hanging from an umbrella, serving drinks to a crowd. The press are spoiled!

Wow...

are the Lambo and Maserati models, lots of leg being shown.. Wonder how would people at car shows react if men in suits were the models at the shows??

There are plenty of men in suits and of course more casual attire. They just don't get their pictures taken very often (by me)...

Many brands have long relationships with the press and specific magazines, and yes you'd NOT be surprised at the 'gifts' and cars 'on loan' offered. Have journalist friends within the industry and one guy in Texas years ago was starting a car magazine and...
