When i bought my F2 back in 1993 ....

Feb 28, 2020,11:22 AM

... only 3 bikes were faster on a racetrack.

Bimota Furano
Ducati 888 SP5
Honda CBR 900RR Fireblade.
I remember my 600 standing next to a Fireblade, both original exhaust. It was impossible to hear any difference in engine or exhaust note. Actually these engines are undistructable.
Every time i tried another bike i found my 600 to be the best and easiest to handle ... Yamaha YZF, Ducati 888 and Supersport, Fireblade, GSXR ... etc ... .
But then early 1994 the 916 and Monster came out. I tried the M900 and that was a revelation, the handling and playfullness was totaly bonkers. One week later still early 1994 i tried the 916 .... not just any 916 but a 916 SP sports production with a more powerfull engine and Ohlins front and rear .... it felt like Ducati had skipped a few generations and the tone was set. For me the 916/996 will remain the best and most epic bike ever .... but the 90ies Hondas are a breed apart as well .

Sidenote:
In 1997 i sold the CBR and bought a Bimota YB9 with the Yamaha 600 FZR engine. It had less power but the Bimota was 15 kilo lighter but felt like 50 kilos lighter 😬😁.
It was a lot sharper on turn in than any bike on the market, including any standard or heavily modified 916 but at high speeds it was really a handfull. It tried to kill me on several occasions, actually it’s a miracle i’m still alive considering the stunts i experienced with that bike 😂.
At one point i had a tankslapper doing 140 kph, big trees on the side of the road, i was literally hanging on the bike legs in the air and holding onto the handles . Tyres were screaming and the bike slapped and flexed from left to right with the front and back wheel never in a straight line. All i was thinking, no shouting, was ‘ DONT LET GO DONT LET GO’. I hold on got control again and stopped over.
Later that evening when i went into the shower my legs, feet, hands and wrists were blue from the hits i got from the bike smashing onto my body .... .
A couple of months later i decided to put it in my living room which seemed safer than riding it 😁.

A car I owned in the late 90's, which I loved a lot with its special 2, 9 L 6 Cylinders. The sound of the engine was fantastic. I had a preparation of the engine by Oettinger ( 230 HP instead of 190 ), Koni shock absorbers and Brembo brakes. A bomb. I bor...

Sure, there where no smartphones then. Cool car you had. I made pictures of my first car with an analog camera with Fuji film in it.

Exciting car....

Europe

 By: Weems@8 : February 17th, 2020-10:29
I saw them regular. The car has it’s roots as Scirocco. Later on the model was again Scirocco.

The first Scirocco

 By: Weems@8 : February 17th, 2020-10:43
Yes, i know the fist Scirocco of seeing them on the roads a long time ago. The second generation of the Scirocco was in the time, the VW Santana was sold in Europe. I always loved the sister from Porsche, the transaxle Porsches 928, 914, 944. Regret that ...

That car was a real dream car back then for me .

With some aftermarket parts you could make it a unique car . Never owned one as they were a bit to expensive for me .

True! [nt]

I had driven the Corrado at the Dealer, but I never owned it... I did own two Sciroccos...

I believe that the Scirocco was first released in the US in about 1975. I saw it then at the local VW dealer. It was very cool - Italian flair with a German foundation. I went on and bought a brand new one in 1977. It was my first new car. I ran that one ...

This car could replace Viagra!!!!

This one I still own it. Possibly the heaviest and slowest VW gti ever produced. But I love her so much. Besides, my daughters don't allow me to get rid of it! The nineties! ...

She needs some make-up...

Let's see what is going to happen with all the French tourists arriving for summer! No 2 cv allowed for sure!

I know, the same in Italy.

Here, where everything comes later and rehashed, no old car, even the classic ones (your Volvo of course), cannot be driven in Barcelona unless you pay a 3 euros fee. Penalise and criminalise the working class and make it easier for the privileged, that's...

A pity. [nt]

In Mexico you can still drive one

 By: renerod : February 26th, 2020-21:16
As long as you have a good mechanic and it passes the emissions test! We are lucky I think. Best. René P.S. I would have it serviced by a good old mechanic and pay the fee 5 or 6 times in the summer but of course, since they were made in Mexico, you can s...

Yes, you are! [nt]

Sold it only because my parents sold me a Ford Fiesta almost new and cheap. But I love this car. Thanks for the memories! René

Did you have that version with the special sports interior. The steering wheel with three aluminum spojes and three holes drilled in every spoke? Man I was drooling over that car but couldnt afford it back then

One of the very few VW of that era i didnt drive.

 By: bimbeano : February 25th, 2020-00:13
I had a go in the Corrado G60 and several 16V , 1800 and 2000 cc. My very best friend had a Passat VR6 so i drove it on many occasions, as well as a Golf VR6. Those engines had character and power. On the Passat i once managed to get the brakes on fire, w...

The gearbox was shitty on the G60

 By: bimbeano : February 25th, 2020-03:54
I remember: 50 in 1st 85 in 2nd 140 in 3rd 200 in 4th So veeery long gearing going to third the revs dropped too much and the fun was over. As for the 16v the car was too heavy. The only option was the VR6 ... and tuned to 230 hp that must have been amazi...

Wow! I didn’t know this model from VW

 By: renerod : February 26th, 2020-21:03
It looks very sporty and fast! Wouldn’t mind getting one today. I’ve been thinking about getting a ‘92 Honda CBR 600 F2 lately 😉. But I don’t think the wife approves ☹️, even less with an almost 5 YO at home 😊! But that VW could do. Only for Sunday mornin...

Wow! How much CBR600 love here!

 By: renerod : February 27th, 2020-20:13
A NOS 1994??? What a lucky guy! It was the F3, also on my wishlist! I would love to find a NOS also 😍😍😍 What I love or these bikes is that, besides the breakthrough design, they were powerful enough, but not overpowered. I know they are more manageable to...

The CBR900RR is also on my list, but for everyday use, I still prefer the 600. Then the monster, it is everything you want in a bike: handling, feelings, even the vibrations that get to your hands are, in my experience, what a bike should be. Oh! And the ...
