The NSX is an absolute classic

Apr 05, 2022,17:16 PM

I remember it was quite something when it was first released, all aluminum and designed like few cars before it. I recall the greatest compliment (and simultaneously to some the worst insult) was that it drove like a Honda/Acura when you weren't flogging it. I think at the time only really true automotive connoisseurs recognizes the achievement by Acura to create such a capable sports car that didn't drive poorly at slower speeds and handled like a normal car around town. My recollection was that when it was released some reviewers took that as a negative and suggested it lacked personality. However, I think long term the connoisseurs who collected them have proven them wrong.

I was out recently for a sunny Sunday drive in a little convertible and passed an NSX going the other way. You really don't see many of them on the roads these days, but it's a true pleasure when you do.

Honda NSX. The Japanese Ferrari?

 By: amanico : April 5th, 2022-11:08
A 30 years old car. Time flies, I remember that one like it was yesterday. Less sensuous than a Ferrari, but not less technical, at the contrary. What do you think? Best, Nicolas. PS Credit pictures: Classic Car. ...

Yes absolutely

 By: Esharp : April 5th, 2022-11:14
Brilliant car. Saw one the other day here in HK and was taken back to how brilliant it was! Best E.

Being developed with Ayrton’s inputs

 By: agyzace : April 5th, 2022-11:15
this can only be seen as a legendary car. Ahh, memories of youth ☺️ and eternal sadness for the loss of a hero

Totally agree

True, true!

 By: amanico : April 5th, 2022-13:57

Absolutely gorgeous

 By: Gelato Monster : April 5th, 2022-11:17
IMHO it is one of the most iconic Honda. Personally I think it is in the top4 Japanese with. Toyota GT2000, Hakosuka GTR and Godzilla R32-GTR😀. After a long thought I still can't go down to top 3. I admire all of those 4 equally

Ayrton drives the NSX

watch his foot technique...Love the white socks Note how he presses down on the pedal feeling for grip in the corners, no one could duplicate this technique precisely Ayrton drives the NSX in Japan

My first encounter with one of these...

 By: MikiJ : April 5th, 2022-12:28
Track Time at Watkins Glen. Brought my "chipped" BMW M5 with new Pirelli p7s. After several laps following one of these I had no hope of passing. Japanese Ferrari for sure.

Good one, Miki!

Great car.... !

 By: @lberti : April 5th, 2022-12:40
I never drove this car, but was a passenger once! It was a very nice ride. I remember driving other Japanese super cars back then, such as the NISSAN 300 ZX Bi-Turbo or the Supra 3.0! My god, what a thrill !

I think this is when cars were still cool...

 By: BigFatPauli : April 5th, 2022-12:42
And oh so cool this one is. To this day, it's a total head turner.

Yes, made in a purpose-built factory (at GREAT expense)

 By: cazalea : April 5th, 2022-20:19
They didn't make as many as planned, so the excess capacity was used up by another low volume, all-aluminum structure car -- the first Insight. That's why I bought mine (poor many's NSX) with high-revving motor, titanium rods, fancy injection system, aero...

It’s my dream car. The ultimate, white black carbon type R, but is right steerd.

🤩

Thank you

Here is a NSX i made a picture of. ...

Cool!

My other dream car

 By: Weems@8 : April 5th, 2022-17:37
Actually i want a Carrera S RWD. A GT3 needs a race track to live. ...

An icon.

 By: amanico : April 5th, 2022-17:44

Very refined

 By: Weems@8 : April 5th, 2022-17:56
Technically one or the best sports car. Sure you like your Alpine, i my Honda, but Porsche be honest is here the winner. Le Mans, 911, Ferdinand Porsche. A fun picture. ...

The cheapest 911

 By: Weems@8 : April 5th, 2022-18:07
Yes you have a point. I have so my things i want to cloth my perfect 911. RWD, PDK, my favorite paint, interior options, no roll bar, around 525 hp. An AWD manual shifted in silver metallic i skip.

Now we are speaking. ;)

It would be interesting to analyse the value curves of that NSX against its 'enemy' of the day, the Ferrari 348

 By: VinnieD : April 5th, 2022-13:31
Taking maintenance costs into account, I think the Honda wins hands down. I always loved the way they used the two colours: the black top is very cool in this case

Never drive this one but I did drive it’s successor and the current generation of NSX on a race track a few years ago.

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : April 5th, 2022-16:19
And out of the few cars driven on the track that day, a Lamborghini , two Ferrari, the NSX was by far my favorite and the most fun to drive! I did not expect that!

I prefer my rig on the track....

 By: MSB : April 5th, 2022-16:30
240 Hp at the wheel 225 kilograms without bags. only a plaid will make it sad H2 Sx With Brocks full system ...

Wow!

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : April 5th, 2022-19:09

Plaid versus H2

 By: MSB : April 5th, 2022-17:33
This bike is even more track focused with a good rider as well. The plaid will outrun any supercar right now for 1/20th price of a Bugatti . Torque rules. That is why I have a supercharger but electric unbeatable for instant torque H2 versus plaid s

Impressive.

I remember it was quite something when it was first released, all aluminum and designed like few cars before it. I recall the greatest compliment (and simultaneously to some the worst insult) was that it drove like a Honda/Acura when you weren't flogging ...

Certainly a fair point.

always loved that car! superb engineering for the time. remember a story about the body though....

 By: DouglasM : April 5th, 2022-17:17
I seem to recall when they came out, that insurance companies here in the US weren't too keen to insure them. Something about the one-piece body made of aluminum that would be very expensive to fix/replace Anyway, great car and wish i had the money to buy...

Thirty Years Old pictures of an NSX!

 By: cazalea : April 5th, 2022-20:13
Taken by myself of a pal who came from Northern Ireland to run on tracks in France. By the time we got to Toulouse he had no tread left, and there were no tires to be had anywhere that fit the NSX. He was running very hard and competitive with almost any ...

Slightly boring to sit in

 By: cazalea : April 5th, 2022-20:21
Looks like a Honda Accord inside, sadly, mostly black/grey plastic... though once it starts howling about 7000 rpm you forget the boring interior

+1!

 By: amanico : April 5th, 2022-20:36

From memory, yes.

 By: amanico : April 6th, 2022-05:44

Love the original NSX! A friend is lucky enough to own 3 of them and I was lucky enough to steal one for a day, such a unique driving experience!

 By: Fastwong : April 5th, 2022-20:32
I've had some low cars before but the NSX is absolutely on the floor, so flat in a way new cars can't ever be again due to safety regulations. The design is so futuristic, even today, and driving that low slung car with very reclined seating position on r...

Lower it some more and put on bigger tires!?

 By: cazalea : April 5th, 2022-22:12
This car must be nearly impossible to drive on the street. Cazalea ...

Dont like that at all.

 By: nasseriq : April 6th, 2022-20:02

+1

 By: amanico : April 7th, 2022-06:12

The 5 speed box feels a little slow but I imagine the C32 with 6 speed is "just right".

 By: convexproblem : November 4th, 2022-07:32
I honestly dislike cars that don't let you rev them out, and the NSX is basically already there for the US since we have low speed limits. It's a little bit faster than a base naturally aspirated Cayman, which is good enough for a street car IMO.

Welcome here, by the way!

 By: amanico : November 4th, 2022-10:46

I have a friend - who had one

 By: hans_jorgen_1968 : April 6th, 2022-17:23
And it took him around 2 years to figure out it had an extra ⚙️ gear.. as he couldn’t reach max speed in the gear he thought was the highest (I believe it has 6 gears)

Hehehe!

 By: amanico : April 6th, 2022-20:26

Love early versions of the NSX. Timeless styling, great handling, sweet motor even if a bit low on power. In the 90s the Japanese produced some great sports cars. I was lucky enough to

 By: InDebtButOnTime : April 7th, 2022-16:39
own two that were fantastic. Both had great styling but different personalities and attributes. The 300ZXtt was sweet to drive. Fast. Fairly reliable. Very comfortable. Hard to work on. MKIV Supra tt was faster. Bullet Proof! ...no matter how much hp you ...

I miss mine. Coincidentally after 10 years.......

 By: Hororgasm : April 7th, 2022-18:52
It ended up in the garage of a collector that stays two streets away from me!!! Best, Horo

Found a picture of my old 29 NSX, with a fellow owner

 By: Hororgasm : April 7th, 2022-19:58
There were only 6 in whole of Singapore. Back then, all my mates wanna drive a Porsche 911, i was the only "idiot" that wanted a Japanese car. Best, Horo ...
