Makers Make Mistakes - I visited Rolls-Royce on business once
Aug 20, 2019,09:55 AM
This was before the BMW takeover. It was kind of like a watch factory - a bunch of talented people making cool things they could never afford to own.
My visit was regarding a project to provide them with an electronic service information system. We had a good time talking about all the possibilities, and our capability to provide a system for the dealers. As we stood up to go, the executive handed me a thick stack of papers which outlined the requirements.
We discussed it on the drive home, but decided that it was economically infeasible for us to support their 300+ dealers in 20+ languages. So we wouldn't bid. Later as we reached our London hotel, I sifted through the stack and discovered he had also given me the bids he had received from the other competing vendors. Oops!
We sent them back with apologies, though he was the one embarassed. We all make mistakes, it's just that giant London Cab that's hard to overlook.

It is young people with $. There are countless Rolls Royce and Bentleys in Miami and LA. Probably more than anywhere. And most of the drivers are under 40, and even younger.
