I wouldn't stress. Head gasket really unlikely, that would have shown other issues.

Probably the plastic rad or as mentioned below plastic water pump. So long as you stopped driving once you saw the temps get warm engine should be fine.
Unless you want to tell your wife you"need" a new car. Then definitely head gasket π

The car situation happens to the best of us! Be well!!!
Cooling system was a common weak point for BMW cars for years.

Certainly better on newer cars, and 57K miles is very early, but my guess is a water pump failure (could be a temp sensor too, but they are designed to fail open and therefore lead to overcooling instead of undercooling). This usually doesn't happen until...

Yes, I hope itβs not too expensive a fix. I really love driving this car, enough power, but not too much power, can drift if you want to. I had the limited slip differential installed to help with drifting when I bought itππππ

Your M235i has an electronic water pump if I recall correctly. If the pump fails, there's no warning light until the engine reaches a critical temperature. A warning light would come on only if the thermostat is working correctly. On a BMW 545i I used to ...

My Mrs. drives a 335ix Coupe. DO NOT PAY to have this fixed.

If I recall correctly, if you are in the USA, there is a class action suit about the electric water pump failures. I have a letter about this somewhere from the lead litigator. Check around. All the best... HEO.
Busted water pump would be my guess..
