For now. But easy or quick charging is just an infrastructure question, not a tech one.

Improvements in charging speed and access solve most of the problems. Plenty of people shied away from gas cars due to price, complexity, and scarce infrastructure in the first decade of ICE. Horses made more sense when stables were common, hay was cheap, and gas stations were rare.

The Quartz Era is Analagous to the Electric Car Movement...

 By: patrick_y : November 29th, 2021-07:37
The Quartz Era devastated the Swiss Watch Industry. People moved away from mechanical watches to quartz which required much less cost to manufacture AND required much less maintenance too! There were performance benefits too, as the accuracy of average Qu...

Interesting thought and agree...

... I think the ICE will become a very niche/anachronistic fixture in the future (which I think is a shame, from a purely selfish perspective). The main difference I see in mechanical/quartz vs ICE/electric is the externalities of ICE (i.e. pollution), wh...

Our grandkids will probably not see ICE cars at all.

I was told by some gentile adults that a long time ago, there used to be small lawn mower engines attached to washing machines for clothes! I thought, "how primitive." The grandchildren will think that it's primitive to use an ICE car in the future.

Interesting thoughts!

And who will be the equivalent of Swatch Group, Casio, Citizen and Seiko? A difference with mechanical watches, I am not sure we will still have some big petrol car manufacturers. The image of pollution is too big and I am not sure society will accept new...

The farther you live from a city, the less batteries appeal

 By: cazalea : November 29th, 2021-12:21
So in the American West, Canadian North, Australian Outback, Lapland — perhaps ICE will survive the longest. The energy density is just so much greater than batteries. Thus you can carry (with one hand) some extra 50-100 miles of fuel. I suspect there wil...

"Government legislation backing them up"

That tells you all you need to know.

Sadly, that's the truth...

Governments are now planning to ban ICE powered cars in major cities on weekdays. Looks like the ICE cars are going to become weekend only machines.

Nice photo!

Just a hint of tire smoke on this rear wheel drive monster!

There is some time to go

Before the ‘EV crisis’ reaches the level of the quartz crisis. For the average consumer, ICE cars still offer more range and comfort per dollar. But that isn’t to say that EVs will not catch up. I think the difference this time is that the established aut...

A good comparison

 By: Weems@8 : November 29th, 2021-19:29
After some decades all cars are electric. Nobody would be angry at combustion powered cars. The only difference would be the rare possibilities to fill up the tank with petrol, which owners of old combustion engined cars buy online some liters of petrol. ...

While I like the electric cars, I will miss the old "relics" very much...

 By: patrick_y : November 29th, 2021-20:41
Those old relics may not be as fast nor as efficient as the electric cars. But they have something special about them. There's something deeply mechanical about a gasoline engine that purrs. There's something of a life or a soul. And it's missing mostly i...

Sure Patrick

 By: Weems@8 : November 29th, 2021-21:21
It is. After all, it are things. For example a robot, never replace a human. Watches are different in many ways, than another product. It have a soul. Time is not something you can touch, so to get it visible, a mechanical watch is an instrument that can ...

I suspect gas powered cars will be for hobbyists

 By: Tim_M : December 7th, 2021-17:01
How many pre-1980 cars do you see on the road? Almost none. Most ICE cars already disappear through attrition and recycling. I suspect that the natural course of disposal and retirement of older cars will cull the herd to a level that's sustainable on a h...

Just paid $5.199 USD per US Gallon...

 By: patrick_y : December 10th, 2021-07:36
Dino gas is getting expensive! I definitely see the appeal of an electric car... Cheap gas. Great performance. But for some, some will want the whole manual gear shift experience combined with a gasoline car for the sound effects. I like to say that I'm a...
