BMW Z8: A Classic?

 By: amanico : March 1st, 2022-07:01
After looking at these photos ( Credit : On the plates ), I think it is: Here, Credit unknown, but I will happily credit on request. I could see the Z8 on the road a few times, and I fell in love with that car. Exquisite, refined, sensual... This car has ...

Yes definitely I think so. I love the silver exterior and red interior combination for this Z8

 By: emcquillan : March 1st, 2022-07:16
Although a black leather interior would be more practical. This was my dream car when I was so young before working. This is on a short list of cars on my radar for a vintage pleasure with real character.

absolutely.

I am probably one of the few

 By: penfriend : March 1st, 2022-07:32
but I really dislike the design of this Z8 - it is not classic traditional enough in my opinion but has just a bit too sharp and aggressive wannabe-lambo-lines in the front. Something kids prefer with their die cast metal cars or James Bond car addicts ;-...

too sharp and aggressive for a car that was supposed too be the successor of the 507

 By: penfriend : March 1st, 2022-07:42
surely not comparable with those actual monsters :-0

LOL!

 By: amanico : March 1st, 2022-09:30

You are definitely right, mon ami.

 By: MTR : March 1st, 2022-08:38
My big grill says hello. Definitely not under the radar… But I love it and wear it in combination a discreet watch. LOLL ...

its an acquired taste and full of character

 By: Gelato Monster : March 1st, 2022-15:13
This daring design is very BMW unlike the other German

At the beginning there

 By: MTR : March 3rd, 2022-06:42
were many jokes about this new front design. But in the meantime most critics have gotten used to it. Or now have other worries. LOL And I personally have always liked this design very much.

The Z8 without question is a classic and iconic in my opinion.

 By: Monopole : March 1st, 2022-08:14
My grail,… 🥂🥂🥂

Iconic, I agree.

 By: amanico : March 1st, 2022-10:46

It is a beautiful car. A colleague of mine used to.have one and he always told me that the car was made to be more of a beautiful cruiser.

 By: @lberti : March 1st, 2022-08:21
The prices are quite accessible, if i am not mistaken. A beautiful piece indeed.

:) agree, especially the "competizione".....

 By: @lberti : March 1st, 2022-10:58
have you heard of the disco volante ?

Nah, what's that?

 By: amanico : March 1st, 2022-11:29

There you go....!

 By: amanico : March 1st, 2022-15:29

For me

 By: MTR : March 1st, 2022-08:31
the Z8 is BMW’s most beautiful sports car and one of the most attractive sports cars ever made. Comparable to an E-Type (for me). Love it!

An absolutely gem of a car...

 By: patrick_y : March 1st, 2022-08:37
The BMW Z8 is an amazing gem of a car. One that is underappreciated. Design wise, it's so perfect... It deserves to be housed in a museum. It's probably in a museum or two! I haven't driven one (moved one in a parking lot, but that doesn't count).

Defintely worth of a museum :-)

BMW Museum in Munich.

 By: fmc000 : March 1st, 2022-11:16
Thanks.

Wow, a place to visit!

 By: amanico : March 1st, 2022-11:32

Indeed it is if you're a roundel fan like me.

 By: fmc000 : March 1st, 2022-11:44
Especially if you prefer the older design style.

I do prefer it.

 By: amanico : March 1st, 2022-12:10

Indeed!

 By: patrick_y : March 1st, 2022-21:14

Exquisite example!

 By: patrick_y : March 1st, 2022-21:13

Absolutely a classic imho

 By: Watchonthewrists : March 1st, 2022-08:58
Definitely a very good looking and beautiful car .

The Z8 is highly underrated by most IMHO.

 By: marcobermann : March 1st, 2022-09:56
Hi all Back in the time when these cars were first being released I was in one of my not working phases and helping out a friend of a friend that was a luxury sports car dealer. I was making weekly trips to Frankfurt to then drive back to London various F...

I find it flawless and individualistic

 By: agyzace : March 1st, 2022-10:13
What else can one ask for? Cheers my friend

Good point

 By: agyzace : March 2nd, 2022-12:37

That I don't know....

 By: amanico : March 2nd, 2022-15:49

Oh yes

 By: blau : March 1st, 2022-11:08
This car is an absolute joy inside, out, and mechanically. My dad bought one new in '02 and has been driving it consistently in good weather for 20 years now! The local BMW dealership jokes that his is probably the highest mileage Z8 in existence.

Your father has Class!

 By: amanico : March 1st, 2022-11:32

100%

 By: blau : March 1st, 2022-21:45

;)

 By: amanico : March 1st, 2022-21:58

Definitely a classic. Timeless styling. Terrific engine (same as the M5 from that era). Manual transmission.

 By: vitalsigns : March 1st, 2022-13:56
And prices here in the U.S. have certainly borne that out. Low mileage examples are very expensive and are now collector cars IMO. John

Easily....

 By: InHavenPro : March 1st, 2022-14:14
One of, if not, the prettiest car BMW has ever made . Great pictures, Filip

Impeccable.

 By: MichaelC : March 1st, 2022-14:23
Look how nice the wheels fit the design. Nothing overdone, everything working well together. Winner for me!

No question, it's an absolute classic.

 By: g_schroder : March 1st, 2022-15:01
It's had the look of a long term classic right from the start, which not many cars do. Fairly limited production numbers and beautiful classic lines. I suspect that even if you paid the outrageous amounts that this car commands in today's market, long-ter...

It definitely is.

 By: jp884 : March 1st, 2022-15:59
I tried to add one to the collection about 3-4 years ago and they were already hovering around the $200k mark. And at that price point a lot of options open up so I passed onto the next.

What I thought, too...

 By: amanico : March 1st, 2022-18:52

What I did... :)

 By: amanico : March 1st, 2022-22:27

Top-down…

 By: JToddH : March 1st, 2022-22:15
It looks vintage “Aston-esque” in the front IMO. Not a bad point of comparison in my book!

Future (or current) classic

 By: TeutonicCarFan : March 1st, 2022-22:52
All time style. Black with red interior would be my choice. I had a chance to drive an automatic one a long time ago (maybe alpina?)... it has open top racer style, but it drives relaxed and GT like. For me that is perfect. Can have 911 for sports car des...

Yes.

 By: RabidManatee : March 2nd, 2022-00:56

Thanks, Rabid.

 By: amanico : March 2nd, 2022-06:37

I can still remember the first time I saw this car

 By: mhz vph : March 2nd, 2022-04:38
It was on my computer screen, during Clarkson's review of it on Top Gear. I remember being so disappointed when he said it was no fun to drive 😂 because it really is a thing of beauty. Whether or not something is a classic, at the end of the day, depends ...

Perhaps compared to the more ubiquitous Z4?

 By: mhz vph : March 2nd, 2022-06:46
As always, no review can be taken too seriously. Especially ones from an a show like TG which is primarily for entertainment, not consumer advice. It doesn't matter how the Z8 drives, not really. It is a thing of beauty.

I totally agree.

 By: amanico : March 2nd, 2022-06:49

I don't believe there's any real doubt.

 By: Tim_M : April 7th, 2022-23:38
They were $80-$100,000 used cars for a long time. Now it's $200-$400,000. I've seen sales over $400K These were ripped by magazines when they came out. I guess it's not enough to be a gorgeous 6-speed roadster with 400hp and rear-wheel drive. Journalists ...

Well said, Tim!
