I believe this is the case but correct me if I am wrong. I don’t recall seeing discussion on the point. Regardless, it is spectacular. I would love to own one at some point.

To me, the link would be the hexagonal bolts (screw-heads?) that pass through the bezel to the case back. That's the link in my eyes. Also, just maybe, having only six sides accentuates the fact, where 8 sides may appear kind of "round" at a distance. Thi... 

That makes perfect sense. I never connected the bezel bolts to the crown. Also agreed on eight sides to the crown maybe being too round. Congrats on owning such an icon for so long.
