This watch is a technical tour de force and, for me, that strength is also a weakness.
Your photography is fantastic and I can see why you love this watch, but I’m afraid it is not for me. The case is extremely beautiful on its own, but the combination of a round bezel and octagonal center makes it very indecisive in nature. When you turn the watch around and look at it from various angles, its character is always changing. Some will look at the case, count the textures, shapes and finishes, and add them up and say it is fantastic. I would personally prefer a simpler, more cohesive shape, even if it wasn’t as technically impressive.
The burgundy fume dial is a huge success, as it adds to the watch and takes nothing away. I believe the dial could be improved further by deleting the lollipop sweep seconds hand and redesigning the applied elements to be sharp rather than flat, i.e adding more facets. The large applied Arabics also need some sharpness, or made less prominent.
My belief is the Code 11.59 line is going to indirectly strengthen the brand. As the Code 11.59 line evolves, the improvements made at great effort and great cost will simultaneously keep the breadwinner lines fresh. Eventually, the best elements may come together cohesively and the Code 11.59 or its successor will stand equal to the Royal Oak. In the meantime, wouldn’t this burgundy fume dial look quite striking as a Royal Oak dial?
