It is an absolute marvel !
I had an opportunity a few years back to buy one at an auction but my order was probably below reserve price.
Anyway, the proportions are just amazing 39mm absolutely underrated, the kind of watch i would love to own.
You bought it in Canada there was one on chrono24 a few month in terrible conditions with the dial to replace is it the one you got ? I reckon after a service it is a great deal (it that's the one !).
Regarding the strap I agree it is really disappointing particularly on a Grande Complication not to be duly recognized and get a new strap. I think it is a big mistake for +/-200$... 
Anyhow wear it in good health it is really a Graal of a watch, only acute eyes will spot it others will think it is "only" a normal Jules Audemars !

Did you ask for a complimentary new strap?
I always do! Whenever I get a seriously large service estimate (hello Roger Dubuis) I always enquire very nicely whether the service is accompanied by a complimentary new strap. I have yet to be turned down 😀 NickO
