Dear fellow Purists: is the following true, not verifiable at all or complete nonsense?

There are rumours now and then that the Rolex Oysterquartz 5100 was supposedly designed by Gerald Genta before he came up with the design of the AP Royal Oak a few years later.

I never understood what they mean with the first luxury sports watch? A Rolex 1680-8 (Submariner in gold) is not luxury sports watch?

And what the mean with sport, the first R.O.s where not for swimming. The Oysterquarz case also exist with an automatic movement as , very rare and sought-after. Best

You can certainly see the similarity. Always liked the look of the Rolex Oysterquartz.

but we will never know if Genta really did do something here. but this video pushed me over the edge and I got one 17014 for me
