Royal Oak Advice Requested

 By: Watch4Me : October 31st, 2018-17:23
I know it’s all personal preference, but I’m torn, so I’m turning to you for some help. I’m going to buy my first AP Royal Oak and I’m torn between the chronograph, 41mm self winding, or jumbo. All options would be SS with blue face. Pros and cons to all....

They are both outstanding watches

But the Jumbo is in a class by itself. How large is your wrist? I have a 7.25" wrist (so not really big or small) and I personally prefer larger watches in the 44mm+ range, however I felt the Jumbo wears large for 39mm when I owned one. As long as it does...

My wrist is about 7.5”

The wrist isn’t the problem. It’s the rest of my body.

Why did you get rid of it?

It just wasn't me

The Jumbo is a beautiful classic timeless elegant and sophisticated timepiece. Alas, I am none of those things and so the watch always felt a little disingenuous on my wrist. It just wasn’t me. It departed to a fellow Purist and was replaced by a 44mm Ros...

You love the look of the chrono on your wrist, buy that and love it.

It doesn't matter at all that something is "purist approved" or not. Be a purist, approve it, *boom* problem solved!

I had this choice a number of years ago, just when the Chrono was upsized to 41mm and when the Jumbo was freely available.

I went with the Chrono, it was the wrong choice for me as ultimately 41mm was too large and I grew bored of it. I ended up selling it and of course it's now impossible to attain the Jumbo. Think long and hard about the size, 39mm is more versatile for mos...

AP jumbo is the best selling RO

This was stated by Antonio Seward AP North America CEO on Friday Live (video available on YouTube). Perhaps a slip up but no doubt an unintentional acknowledgement that 15202 are not as “impossible” to obtain as they make us think....

Agreed. I know many people who have walked into the Boutique and magically had one found by the staff in the safe, or there just happened to be one because a customer just declined his/her order 30 minutes ago.

But that said, I also know a lot of people who need to wait for it, more waiting than receiving the magical one from the safe. The time I referenced above when I purchased the Chrono, the Jumbo was sitting in the case beside it, as were every other iterat...

Wearing

I think it wears large... Compared to other 39mm watches. Probably because of the way it sits with the bracelet.... And the bracelet is wide where it connects with the case. Personally I think the jumbo looks nicer vs the Chrono or the 15400. The dial wit...

Only one for me.....

Jumbo of course, no contest. Exception will be like you have a huge wrist, like 8"+. ...

At the risk of repeating myself...

I said the same thing in another thread recently, but when I was shopping for an AP I tried both the Jumbo and the 41mm RO and bought the 41mm. The Jumbo just felt too small on my wrist - not only due to the diameter but the watch is very thin and it almo...
