To me the case feels AP, but the dials don't - so the first overall impression is too generic. The link to AP lies just beneath in the case and that's why the case is brilliant. I just hope they do something about the dial/bezel soon ( which I have confidence they will).
Leaving aside the Royal Oak, even the Millenary's and Jules Audemars lines feel distinctively AP - different interpretations along a spectrum of what I see as a theme - "historically rooted avant garde" (oxymoron).
Sorry a little all over the place, but bottom line for me - am really keen to see what the next releases look like. I think they will definitely be a step up.

Inspired by Mohannad's pictures...

I dug up some pictures of trying on the code 11.59. I have to say the case is a lot more compelling in person, and I love the details on the case. However, the thinner / lack of a bezel and loads of empty space on the dial didn't get me excited and makes ...

I somehow feel like AP is designing 1159 with cost savings in mind.

thus one generic design platform where they can freely built design/dial/movement evolutions in the future.

Interesting Gelato Monster...

Please could you elaborate? Isn't that what most watch companies do with cases - e.g. Royal Oak with multiple dial/complications? Or the Nautilus case with multiple dial/complications? I probably am missing the direction you are thinking of.

I guess nuance you are referring to...

... Is starting by design versus rollout by evolution?

Yes that too [nt]

The thing is, to successfully make this business model work, you need a successful baseline, which today they don't have with this one.

I am really struggling with this model, and I feel it needs some serious strategic fixes. I just don't think we're talking about small tweaks here. Or maybe I'm completely short sighted (face palm)

Thanks WH_. It will be interesting...

... 1. to see future models and how large the tweaks are, and 2. to view all this debate 5-10 years later once they either have a successful line, or write this off as an experiment

Agree to large extend

The time only indeed has too much open space and looks indeed pretty big on your wrist. Take the AP time only and put it I.e. next to a Moser, or PP or a VC time only. There is a huge difference. I was met with a “dial designer” and he stated that getting...

Case

I’ve seen that case and yes that’s very uniquely designed.

I think the case and movements make for a great future of the collection.

And AP has made spectacular dials before... they will come...

Fingers crossed Michael!

And I am as hopeful as you are.

In case anyone is still wondering what the hierarchy of importance is on a watch... Dial Case Movement.

If the dial ranks #3 on a watch in terms of appeal...it's going to be a dud, plain and simple.

Thanks Tavio_George!

For me, its difficult to generalise. There's a few instances for me of Movement, Case, Dial - Zenith El Primero comes to mind. And Case, Movement, Dial - Reverso Grande GMT But could be exceptions - the dials definitely drive first impressions. Would be i...
