AP Service Center will put in an upgraded ROO chronograph movement for $10.00USD??

 By: Jim14 : April 15th, 2021-09:31
I just called the AP service center in Clearwater, Florida and asked them about a maintenance service for my Carbon Royal Oak Offshore (). As expected, they quoted $1,500USD, but then the agent said that for $10 more, they will drop in an upgraded movemen...

Hell no !!!

Even if they did it for free I would not want it Keep it original!

Mine just did a complete service in Canada (amazing job) before I took delivery. The movement swap won't be offered here until May so no choice but I'm not sure which I would prefer.

A new Certificate is issued when the change is done, so that might put aside any concerns about originality.

Service only for me on that watch.

They did it when mine went on warranty

My brand new ROO 42 was running 30s fast / day and had a very erratic second hand (it would almost stop, jump a few “tics”, go super slow and then super fast). I sent it in warranty 3 days after picking it up from the boutique. They said they needed to ch...

Sounds like AP completely solved your issue right away.

I get it, frustrating to have a warranty issue so soon but I wouldn't let that lead me to your same conclusions. Really nice watch btw!

They should have offered a replacement so you didn't have an extended repair wait, IMO.

Both Harry Winston and Lange did an immediate replacement when I had issues with brand new pieces.

Indeed...

 By: sebks : April 15th, 2021-11:53
And yes they solved the issue. Big question is should the issue be just “solved”? At 30k a piece having such a defect is borderline acceptable, sending it back right away for 2 months is quite frustrating, and then not having any info on what the “upgrade...

Like the guy above says, his Lange and Harry Winston had a similar situation..,

so, no, every watch should be perfect in an ideal world but let me know when you find that place 🤔 but yes all we are left with is solving issues like these. For your wait time, try sending even a basic three hander to Patek; be happy if it takes less tha...

It cracks me up they offer it for 10 bucks!

Why not free or a lot more? $10 just makes me scratch my head.

Possibly, but at that point you can label it as $1 or a $0.01.

Do you think the Boutiques literally are asked to charge their clients $10 if they accept or is it always comped?

When I spoke with Adam at Clearwater, who was incredibly capable, there is a discount applied to the usual movement replacement cost...

 By: oyster case : April 15th, 2021-11:11
so maybe a result of rounding from the discount percentage. My interactions with AP service have been exceptional so I’m not inclined to worry about the exact reason or the difference. The service bill comes from the service center.

Not knowing what is different about the movements, pricing it at $10 says to me they really want people to say yes to the swap

 By: Fastwong : April 15th, 2021-12:54
Why? If they really want to give you a new movement essentially for the cost of servicing the old one, my guess is there are issues with the older movement and it is cheaper for them to give you a new one than run the risk the old one will come back for a...

Indeed. And I've heard of multi-thousand $ replacement bezels.

No way AP is selling the $1,510 movement (including install labor, etc.) at a loss. Draw your own inferences. $37K watch, with a movement that probably costs, what, $1K?

Interesting, notice a few other negative comments of yours lately about the brand. I thought the OP was asking which option others would recommend.

 By: oyster case : April 15th, 2021-16:17
Seems to me, from my inferences, you have different reasons for commenting in the thread. Being insulting towards other members pieces is not the kind of behaviour I have really ever seen on this forum. First time for everything.

I see you don't address the issue. Typical deflection. Fine.

 By: vitalsigns : April 15th, 2021-16:57
And there was plenty of negativity around the Black Panther release--presumably that's what you're referring to. A cacophony of negativity from countless others. I'm no outlier in that context, so I'm not sure what your broader point is. You are right tha...

Why not comment? Because you have nothing constructive to say about the topic and are obviously looking to bash AP and be rude to those who own them.

 By: oyster case : April 15th, 2021-17:11
Really tiresome and something I've never seen around here before. Talking about a new release you don't care for is not the same as coming on a thread and insulting the person's watch. Really tiresome.

No, I am not looking to bash AP nor be rude to those who own them.

You're attributing motives that simply don't exist. And I couldn't care less whether you individually view my posts as constructive. Critical comments are fair game here. Get over it.
