Lovely. Thanks for sharing. I would have plumped for yours but I've just emerged from a vein of buying YG/RG watches, and liked the ivory dial this time.

As for the crossed 4, I'm going to hazard a guess: it's a delicate nod to the Christian tradition of its designers. It didn't appear on the font that A-L Breguet himself designed.

All of the the numerals are heavily stylised but only the 4 bears this additional touch. It has to have a significance all of its own. It's more than just a swish to do away with negative space (there isn't any to do away with anyway). That would actually be rather inelegant. No, it's more than that: it's a Crucifix. This sort of thing isn't unique. We only have to consider the Maltese Cross and VC, and the Spanish Order of Calatrava and PP.

So this would be my suggestion, and am hoping someone can speak with authority on the matter.

I think this one is flying under the radar. A real beauty. Enjoy

It flew under the radar and right out of the catalogue a couple of years ago.

Fortunately it still seems to be available new and pre-owned and wildly, though at wildly disparate prices.

That's a lot of jewels...

 By: mdg : August 26th, 2021-15:39
...and it's a truly lovely watch. I just wished they had used a manual movement that fit the case better...

Yup. Including the DD chronograph module it has more than 400 parts.

I've never fathomed the lament "wish this was an automatic/manual." If I wanted a watch with a particular movement, I'd get it: quartz, spring drive, manual, automatic or solar. Am curious to learn why it took AP so long to produce its own automatic calib...

It's because manual movements are traditional in a chronograph...

 By: mdg : August 26th, 2021-16:10
...and those movements are usually much slimmer than automatics. I think this is one of the best looking watches out there, especially in the price range, but I will never buy it because of the unnecessary thickness. Same with the AP Re-Master. It is stun...

That's perfectly reasonable. Thanks for taking the time to explain. I appreciate it.

You're a purist, I can tell! I'm a little less exacting. I quite like the mix-and-match nature of this watch, as I do with modern iterations in general. There's no doubting however that manual chronographs can be aesthetically prettier than their automati...

Fully agree…

Thank you, Sir.

My eyes are now fixed on a certain Christiaan Van Der Klaauw Planetarium. After that, a Vacheron Constantin Mercator (Africa and Eurasia). You will know a thing or two about at least one of these two lovelies...

Underrated

Love the classic styling, congrats! I hope people pay more attention to the rest of APs products outside of the RO. Watches like this and the Millenary line are really cool.

Hmmm…nice one and it reminds me of the recent interest…

In early models of Roger Dubuis’ Hommage and Sympathie models. Maybe it’s the start of a new wave? Congratulations, it is a nice stealth watch with a strong name 👍🏻

Thank you. That wave has become quite prominent lately with a number of well-known platforms doing their part to highlight the mastery of early RD.

This is a more modest proposition, I'd say, but one that nicely went about doing its own thing before AP decided to mix things up.

The roots are the foundation and someday, I think it will grow strong again…

I am also looking at these unsung heroes of AP, not because others are not looking but because I’m also old school. You are off to a good start 👍🏻

Congrats on this good looking piece

Much appreciated.

The inward-sloped bezel gives the dial a nice, compact appearance. Its pronounced numerals and hands don't feel squeezed for space at all, and apart from a wee nibble of the 8 the registers don't eat at the numerals either. It's all quite well done.

Always a pleasure bro🙏

My RG says hi

Brings you back to the art deco era of the '20s. Noticed the end of the "4" horizontal line is crossed and my RGM 801E has the same "4" design. Does anyone know where this look of the 4 came from? or is it just a flourish, shared with RGM (stunning guillo...

Sorry I missed replying here, I recall seeing the post and thought I had! I love this JA case. And a 2 subdial watch is very much to my liking.
