Sorry I have not been posting in the last few weeks for login issues...
Anyway, I have the Titanium version of this series, and after a month of wearing it, it has become my primary watch. Call me
biased, but I think it's a no brainer.
Some major loves:
A) The flying Tourbillon: while I think the traditional Tourbillon models are incredible, IMHO the ability to view the movement sans bridges, adds an incredible level of complexity and movement to the entire watch. Outside of the Concept pieces, this series is the first flying Tourbillon on a RO model so there's something particularly special.
B) the Automatic movement: at first, I was trying to be a purist and go for a manual wind, but what I realize that for practicality and for day to day usability sake, an automatic movement is just better. Especially as you think about taking the watch to the pool/in the water as a daily wearer, I just feel that seal integrity is less compromised than having to unscrew the crown every few days.
C) the finishing: I believe I shared photos before, but I think compared to my AP perpetuals or jumbos, the level of finishing is much higher, and incorporates additional features (plenty of inward angles) and hand finishing.
D) water resistance: at 50m and a screw down crown, the watch is pool/light beach ready!
Perhaps more subjectively, some additional things I appreciate:
A) Understated: despite having a rather large Tourbillon window, on the wrist, it just does not look as flashy as similar AP models at the price range.
B) Limited: I get a sense that the number of these is extremely limited, and even more so, only go to a limited number of AP clients. So while getting a 50th anniversary and/or a 15202 demonstrates exclusivity, I understand these Tourbillon pieces need additional approvals.
Some things that may be positive or negative:
A) The ticking sound of the movement is noticeable, especially if you put it on your bed stand. For some, it may be soothing and exciting, and for others I can imagine it can be a nuisance. Oddly enough I do sleep well with the ticking on most evenings, but at times I put it in the watch box to mute the movement.
B) The "price on request" - YMMV, but note the launch price and the "updated price" will be different.
Perhaps one last consideration, is Michael Friedman has shared the possibility of using the design language of the 26530 into new pieces a few years ago - perhaps this is a sign in the future that there may be additional models to be released soon at the 26th January event? Time will tell Maybe this means the Evo Tapisserie will be a short series or a longer term series?
Cheers and good luck with your decision!!
