If I can't get a new 15202 then the 15500 may be my first AP

I think the new reference looks cleaner especially since the awkward placement of the date calendar is no longer forced by the small movement.  The increased power reserve from 60 to 70 hours is also welcome and is fast becoming the industry standard for autonomy.

Here's a comparsion shot of the new one vs the old reference.

Any thoughts on the 15550?

Cleaner dial configuration. No “automatic”. Shorter and fatter hour markers. A lot of open space now in the middle... especially for a bigger watch. Is that good or bad? Except for the placement of the date, the overall look kind of deviated from the clas...

As a 15400 owner I may be biased but...

Not a fan. The removal of the 'Automatic' text has left a lot of open dial real estate, the date placement looks odd, and the markers and minute track make the watch look decidedly less elegant. A step in the wrong direction, IMO.

The 15400 date placement is odd too.

Makes it obvious that there’s a smaller movement underneath. I still prefer 15400 for now.

Doesn't look odd to me at all

Especially with the 1/2 market at '3'. I realize it's subjective, but I prefer the date a bit further from the edge of the dial than pushed right up against it.

Different but better in some ways, time will win people over.

This is all subjective, but I believe AP was listening to users' comments about their ROs. The new one is: More legible and with more functional lume. Date window moved in a good way, showing a movement that better fits the case. New and, hopefully, bette...

I guess you can say it now has a suitable movement underneath.

The 15400 obviously has a smaller movement inside. 15550 looks bolder (less dressy?) than any of the previous RO’s due to the new markers.

If I can't get a new 15202 then the 15500 may be my first AP

Huge improvement over the 15400, which has never been right in my eyes.

The 15300 had much better proportions, even the 37mm 15450 looks a lot better than the 15400. That reference has never been right. But the new one works quite well, I look forward to seeing it live.

I agree but the baton markers look thicker in the comparison pic....

I definitely want to see it live as well. The Original 15202 (pre-Anniversary) and the 5402s are the still the ones for me. 15300 was nice as well. Lets see. S

It's because the ratio of the dial / bezel is somewhat off in the 41mm models compared to the classic 39mm?

 By: jomni1 : January 16th, 2019-22:36
I feel the bezels are proportionally thinner in relation to the dial. Then by using similar marker thickness as the 39mm in the 41mm, some see it as an awkward configurations. Proportions are off if the 39mm is the “gold standard”. Now AP seems to be play...

...movement but I like the 15400 dial layout better. It just looks more classy and less sporty, which is where this watch fits in my collection. Oh, and my version (SS White silver dial) is now discontinued 😁😁😁

AP was wise enough to make a distinction.

So we can still buy all models including the 15202. By the way, we have the same version of the 15400. That dial is really something. I heard it’s pretty desirable. Glad they didn’t put it on the new ones. No grey ones too. The new grey dials are of a dif...
