I would love to see a thread on this, but on HoMe, as not just about AP, but addressing the numerous brands who do this

I can’t think of another industry, off the top of my head, where existing, loyal customers are forced to purchase X in order to be granted the “privilege” of purchasing Y. Your sentiment seems to me to be the logical one, which leaves me scratching my head why brands believe this is a good strategy. I think whatever they gain in terms of short-term revenue will be more than offset by the erosion of customer loyalty which could range from the incredulous to utter disdain for the brand. I don’t get the long-term benefits of this practice, biting the hand that feeds you is never a good idea.

I was finally able to lay a CODE 11.59 atop my wrist. And as expected, I love this case.

I am always attracted to structural design in products. This new case by Audemars Piguet is quite developed in this regard. I will definitely add a watch from this collection to mine one day. In person, the dial was not as abrupt as it is in photos. It wo...

Thanks for posting your photos.

It's definitely one to see and handle in person. M4

Have you seen one live yet M4? Totally worth doing so.

Look forward to your thoughts on this collection.

This one is also growing on me.

I strongly plan to add the time only version to my collection. I definitely love the case/sapphire construction : none of the other "big" players has anything comparable. Next time I will be in Paris I will visit the boutique to see the watch in person. S...

The age we live in. Most people enjoy bashing and negativity, they just can't resist the urge to get on the record.

One of the most comical aspects of a watch community, we have seen it time and time again (example, the Juan Pablo Montoya). The comments have so much conviction, yet the product has not been examined up close. Laughable, but they attach their name to it,...

The age we live in. Most people enjoy looking through pink glasses, they just can't resist the urge to praise everything.

Where negativity, there positivity. Balanced like Yin and yang. The truth is somewhere in the middle.

The marketing praised this collection as a step forward and being revolutionary but it wasn't even close to it.

By: Pour le Mérite : January 25th, 2020-06:19
The shitstorm was never about the quality it was about it's release and the poor design. That's something you can judge without handling the subject in person.

That wasn’t my question...

I’m simply asking if you have tried this watch on in a Boutique.

Interesting...

At least that’s resolved something.

I was in NY for a wedding this summer...

and took the opportunity to hit a lot of watch shops, both large and small (private). On a whim me and my wife went into the AP boutique in Manhattan (upper east side I think). Once past the understandable security it was an unpleasant experience. We were...

Thanks Micheal, I also made a point to see some Code models in the metal during the winter break, so to get a first-hand impression after so much has been said about them...

Here's my brief reaction. I never opened a new thread in the AP forum, so I'm simply adding this as a reply to your interesting post. Let me actually start by saying that, while I like many aspects of the brand, I honestly don't go often to AP boutiques, ...

I appreciate your insightful reply.

And I am very happy to hear about your experience at the AP Boutique. That is exactly how it should be. I am not an AP employee, in no way compensated by them for what I write. Yes, it is a favorite brand of mine, and I have collected them for years. That...

I think AP should receive 10 out of 10 for a bold and brave design...

...in an effort to move away from the Royal Oak and flex their avant-garde design muscles. It's a shame people offering negative comments and feedback can't be more diplomatic and just try and grasp how difficult and challenging coming up with a new watch...

No argument from me. I'm sure the reaction was in large part expected by AP.

Everyone knows the brand for the octagon, it will be hard for any others to measure up for most. I will tell you, even though the dials and details don't fully do it for me, I did not want to take the watch off. That tells you what I think about the rest ...

Thanks Michael

I hope this piece is the first step in the evolution of the Royal Oak becoming part of a company's range of watches rather than being recognised as it's only one.

The reactions were clearly not expected. In fact Bennahmias was shocked and he couldn't understand the reactions because little 16 y/o kids wrote him mails that this collection is a banger.

By: Pour le Mérite : January 25th, 2020-13:45
Seeing how you overlook criticism on purpose, blinded by your love, it shows that you succumb the same fate as Bennahmias... the lack of skills to work with criticism.

I'm not sure if English is your first language, so I'll forgive your myopic views...

 By: Tony-GB : January 25th, 2020-14:40
Read my posts again and you'll see that I don't "love" this piece but I applaud bravery. It's the brave that fight and fighting promotes change. I share no fate with Mr Bennahmias as I don't know him and we move in different universes so what you've writt...

And yes my comments might be not as constructive as they could but that’s what’s needed – a big clap in the face. Most people either live in a bubble while being brand whores eating them out of their hands or they bash the shit out of things. I‘m the guy ...

Dear Pour le Merite ...

Would it not be better to try and discuss this watch in a way that is In the spirit of our community in tone and dialogue.

What’s brave and bold about this design?

 By: NickO : January 25th, 2020-15:09
I, personally, just don’t see it. To me, brave and bold design is De Bethune, URWERK, Harry Winston Opus Collection, MB&F etc. These guys all blaze new trails in design and break some glass along the way. I just don’t see that here at all. I think whe...

No argument from me Nick. All opinions are welcomed here.

I have taken no position on what the pre-launch marketing was. You guys can debate that until your faces are blue for all I care. I started this thread, my post states interest in the case. Whether or not my opinion of this watch in terms of its impact ma...

There was the Off-shore, the best seller who kept AP alive through the years. Then, speculators and resellers began to collect as many as they could and AP reduced the supply. Then anyone wanted the iconic Royal oak, with ridiculous price increases for 14...

The work on the case is great and I like this new generation of movements. I'm less convinced by the two glass approach and some details on the dial. But I'm sure that things will be improved. And I would like to remember that nobody was buying a Jules Au...

My thoughts on the Code 11:59 - I think it will be a future classic

 By: socabaptist : January 26th, 2020-16:36
The case is amazing, the dials for the most are great with the lacquer. The movements are top notch and the sapphire is beautiful. The problem is the hands and the indicies. Fortunately that's the easiest part to change. This with some minor adjustment is...

AP boutiques are literally extorting existing clients to buy the Code if they want any new pieces. At an unnamed AP owned boutique in Miami I was directly told no more AP in-demand pieces unless I buy a Code to “maintain the relationship”

 By: @Patek_Ambassador : January 27th, 2020-10:04
I may make a larger standalone post on this, but I cannot possibly be anymore turned off to the Code than I am now after having it be used as a tool of extortion by AP to “maintain a relationship.” Ive spent well over a small fortune with them to date, bu...

I find it stunning how few Code 11:59s are for sale on the secondary market

 By: descartes1 : January 27th, 2020-10:10
There are hardly any. This suggests to me that either they are not selling to begin with, or the people who have bought them really like them and don’t want to sell. Which do you think it is?

On secondary market like Chrono24.

By: Pour le Mérite : March 8th, 2020-00:53
Currently only few have them in stock.
