AP no longer showing retail price 🤔

 By: oyster case : December 13th, 2021-18:06
I had seen mention that AP replaced msrp information with price on request. A visit to the website confirms this. Do other countries also show this? I’m a little confused 😕 as I kinda want to know the retail, even if there’s nowhere to buy in Canada 🥲 Any...

They probably will just do a credit check...

...on potential customers and charge accordingly : )

Hilarious 😂

I heard they pull Experian but I’m at 8/6, 23/12 and LOL/24, so I might have to garden a few more months…😎

[PS: Probably a joke nobody outside of the US can understand…another one of my pretty serious “collections” is credit cards!😂]

;-))

Price on request

 By: Weems@8 : December 13th, 2021-18:40
I see it many times at many brands. I guess it give the brands more freedom to anticipate what the market will do. For example a F.P Journe Elegante quartz. A few years ago the watch was around Today E47000. No wonder they want to hide prices.

Yes, I’ve seen price on request before but only on non regular collection pieces…

 By: oyster case : December 13th, 2021-18:49
Even Rolex has shown price on request for some pieces. However, I just can’t conceive Rolex not divulging publicly the price of a steel GMT or Sub.

I think he meant to say that "price on request" on websites and in catalogues makes it easier for the manufacturer who experiences frequent and multiple price increases.

By: India Whiskey Charlie : December 13th, 2021-19:48
If I am not mistaken, the average Swiss watch company has had three or more price increases this year alone.

Yep

 By: Weems@8 : December 13th, 2021-21:30
Right. I see the phenomenon when, let’s say the price goes above a 20K.

A quick ch24 search

So it is a traders ask.

Exactly yacomino, transparency 👍

Maybe moving toward the Finnish model?

 By: mdg : December 13th, 2021-19:34
...I know there are some posters from Finland here...

Expand my comment to see the link...

...one of the things I don't like about this posting system is that sometimes links and comments are hidden...

Haha 😂 oh you joker 🙂

Maybe ashamed the client can potentially make more profit than the AD or them lol?

Also! :))))

 By: amanico : December 13th, 2021-20:32

LOL!

 By: amanico : December 14th, 2021-22:20

With prices listed, it only fuels the hype with “new” interested people comparing how their watch appreciation against the market…

 By: Clueless_Collector : December 13th, 2021-21:14
It could be a good thing. Someone no knowing the brand will get the sticker shock, lol…

That could be, and yes, I’ve seen innocent, uninitiated people experience that sticker shock at an AD 😳

 By: oyster case : December 13th, 2021-22:05
Perhaps currency concerns drove the decision, an effort to keep diffèrent markets on an equal daily footing?

I wish all watches sell at retail and no discounts, tax refund etc…all equal in different countries.

 By: Clueless_Collector : December 13th, 2021-22:47
This may be towards that day dream 😀

I read on social media that..

 By: RahulR : December 14th, 2021-01:29
AP is announcing or will announce a new sales strategy that "authorized retail dealers are free to set the resale price for their consumer". If I interpret correctly, the AD's can then set at whatever market price grey dealers are setting it for each part...

Ok slow down sir 😳 you’ve said a lot…

 By: oyster case : December 14th, 2021-02:02
but cite no evidence 🤷‍♂️As fun as it is to speculate and then extrapolate upon extrapolation 😂 perhaps waiting for official policy before writing a brand off is the fairer and wiser approach 🤔

apologies..

 By: RahulR : December 14th, 2021-02:22
I did say that I read on social media, which of course should be taken with a grain of salt. My thought process and feelings were based on if what I read was true. In any case, the place where I read it recanted what they said. Apparently it has to do wit...

No apologies needed 🙂 my reply was meant in a playful spirit…

Lots of information out there for all of us to process, I hope that any AP you do covet will find its way to you 👍

I concur

 By: sschew : December 14th, 2021-06:12
MSRP has become market price aka being able to squeeze more economic rent from the customer.

Lol

 By: m2 : December 14th, 2021-01:59
AP, Patek and these other massive brands are just that. Massive brands trying to squeeze every drop out of customers. I don’t blame them at all.

I see where your going with that…

 By: oyster case : December 14th, 2021-02:09
You’re suggesting that people will be charged more because they don’t have a written price to refer to?

correct

 By: mark1958a : December 31st, 2021-19:45
I paid 36,405 USD from a USA boutique but that also included about 9.5% sales tax

Fantastic piece, congratulations 🥳 AP in fact has put prices back on their website…

 By: oyster case : January 1st, 2022-18:22
so it was just a temporary change. Enjoy 😉
