Old-school perpetual calendar. New acquisition.

 By: chk : July 7th, 2020-02:50
ABP strap on the way. This is my first QP, a much-neglected Edward Piguet , born in the early 1990s. The perpetual calendar is now appealing to me. SLow-down time. ...

Thank you! [nt]

Thanks! Indeed off the beaten path as evidenced by its sale listing

Even the vendor (an international auction house) couldn't be bothered with putting the reference in the catalogue listing, and got the case size wrong. The watch, however, speaks for itself. Good day, chk

Thank you for the compliment! But what do I know:

Nowadays hot steel watches are priced quite a lot higher than even good gold watches... chk

A watch buddy has mentioned the Tank Basculante.

It too is rectangular and neglected. Chk

Such a lovely piece....

It's hard to believe that all these beautiful dress AP are so under appreciated, they deserve much much more attention. Congrats on this lovely pick up! Sam

Yes! But the new AP movements are all so big that

I don't suppose anything would fit in the narrow side of a rectangular case....

Old APs can be attractive

 By: chk : July 7th, 2020-08:21
However I dread to see its service bill, when the time comes. Thank you for the note, chk

Wow!...great to see a rectangular AP PC...

...it's not old school, it's classed elegance. Beautiful.

I am a big fan of non-round cases...

 By: mdg : July 7th, 2020-11:24
...although it's rare to get a shaped movement like in the stunning Cabaret. The Arkade is another rarely seen ALS beauty.

I visited Sothebys HKG watch auction viewing today

 By: chk : July 8th, 2020-07:09
There is a fully pavé-d white gold black dial Lange Caberet. The watch is brilliant (pun intended). Chk

Was just looking at that site and the Christie's HK auction...

 By: mdg : July 8th, 2020-13:33
...I know the estimates are low to encourage bidding, but they really do make you think you can get a good deal. Btw, the Patek repeaters on the Christie's site have sound files if anyone is interested. Amazing how the sound varies even within the same re...

Indeed! Sothebys has a pair of PP 3939

 By: chk : July 9th, 2020-10:00
Of those two the platinum 3939 sounds more dreamy than the YG3939. FWIW, chk

Love the ap perpetual

Super!! Good to see an Edward Piguet here.

I would go crazy to see AP release a new version. It's long past time!

Unlikely. I struggle to think how a new small rectangular QP would sell.

 By: chk : July 8th, 2020-07:02
Even I wouldn't approve of such a proposal. Chk

Thanks! I am still in the honeymoon period.

 By: chk : July 8th, 2020-07:03
Let's see how long that feeling will last. Chk

This is wonderful

AP has become such a one trick pony with the Royal Oak that it's good to remember that they once had the inspiration to come up with such nice pieces.

Well, the AP RO is one great trick!

 By: chk : July 8th, 2020-07:04
But AP holds other attractions too. Have you heard their new minute repeaters? Awesome awesome.

Because the Code 1159 is not an Royal Oak?

 By: chk : July 8th, 2020-07:07
And, as far as I could tell, the code 1159 generally sells pretty well. Aesthetically, the Bolshoi edition is growing on me. Chk
