All I can do is to confirm, that I got an E series and an I series and both are without royal oak engraving on the back.

No explanation other than it is a unique trait for a watch that also was produced with a different amount of squares across the dial, and a different font for SWISS MADE.

Many differences. Well, one is blue dialed and one silver dialed, but there‘s also differences regarding the case and bracelet and clasp and even the movement.
