the 1815 is very nice. I believe you can get the chronos from ALS boutiques without an additional purchase (may need to put a deposit down and wait for a while), but they will not discount chronos. I do own a some Langes and was wearing one when I went in...

I believe that's conflating two different policies...

The only Lange models that require a prior purchase are (1) the steel Odysseus Datomatic and (2) numbered limited edition pieces (and perhaps certain very complicated pieces). All other Lange models (Lange 1's, Saxonias, Datographs, 1815 Chronos, Zeitwerk...
My personal preference is the 1815 Chrono.

Due to what I perceive to be a more attractive dial, as well as the slimmer case. Having said that, taste is a very subjective matter, and the Datograph is an icon worth getting.
