I believe this was a false rumor, that Lange removed the pusher due to inadvertent advances.

I only ever heard that from one source, and it never made any sense to me on its face. It'd be very hard to push this button accidentally. It's hard enough to push on purpose! I've never met any Langematik Perpetual owner who complained about accidental pushes. Also, this button is in the same place as the "big date" button on most Lange models, so if accidental pushes were a problem on the Langematik Perpetual, then we should see many Lange 1 owners, Datograph owners, Langematik and Saxonia Big Date owners, etc., complaining about accidentally changing the date.
The legitimate reason that Lange recessed the pusher remains a mystery. I wouldn't be surprised if Lange made this change for aesthetic reasons, to make it a more symmetric design, perhaps underestimating the extent to which many owners use it. I could certainly see a designer/engineer thinking, "This is a perpetual calendar watch and it comes with its own winder, so nobody should ever need to set this after they first get it. It 'should' always be running."
