for the wonderful report, and all the time invested to put attend this event and put together these pictures and post.
A banner year for Lange, with fantastic range of new watches. Nothing else from SIHH seems to merit much attention by comparison.
A few thoughts:
Zeitwerk Luminous--what a creative, inspiring variant of the new Zeitwerk. But also what an inspiring price. I bet the 100 will go quickly.
Homage collection--intrigued by honey gold. What other company would come up with new metal for their watches? Turbograph and L1 Tourb probably out of reach, while 1815 MP could be within reach. Need to see that 1815 in the metal. At first glance the dial does not look well balanced, in contrast to the original. Wiling to take another look, especially in the new gold case of near perfect size increased by 1.5 mm. Older 1815 movement (I assume this is the situation) looks too small for the case, and the new decoration does not help much. Guilloche dial looks a little out of place on 1815 but looks perfect on Turbograph.
1815 CHR--very nice, clean watch. Definitely will appeal more to some than the older version. But this newer version is perhaps too clean for a chrono. Dial could be more interesting while still elegant, like older version. Most interesting is the RG/silver dial, which was not available in the older watch (excpet maybe in the "Dresden" limited set). Nice to have more power reserve, but then again does anyone really mind winding their Lange chrono? Best of this series still the older WG 1815 CHR.
New variations for DS and Dato-perpetual--both look great in RG/silver dial. But as I think more about these watches, the most interesting part of the new watches is the loss of romans on the dial. All batons is such a beautiful look for these watches. Some new Dato variants coming soon?? The subtle changes in these dials are very important, and quite an important evolution for Lange. These watches/dials look great!
Daymatic--I wrote this off when I first saw it. But each time I look at pics I am drawn in more and more. Perhaps a good mirror image in a collection next to a L1. Nicest automatic movement out there. I prefer manuals, but in automatics give me a full rotor, and this one is so nicely executed, probably the nicest out there.
Saxonia annual calendar--very nice, a worthy competitor to Patek's annual calendars and probably more desirable, esp with big date. Probably mostly an economic decision by Lange to take on 5146/5396. A reluctant thumbs up. Somewhat boring in concpet and presentation.
RL Referenzuhr--not a big fan of RL line, at least beyond RL PLM.
Kudos to the Lange team for an exciting and surprising SIHH and great start to 2010.
Thanks again for this post!
