Thanks for your very interesting and elaborated feedback, Tim5, and welcome here! The magic of the Datograph is the " nombre d'or " of its dial, this perfect triangle between the date and the 2 sub dials.

THAT is so iconic that the big date seems to miss, in the 1815, while it is a superb chrono, I totally agree.
Best,
Nicolas

Lange & Sohne Datograph Platinum.

In my Top Five Best Lange ever made, the Datograph certainly is in good place, at its place. An iconic Chronograph not very comfortable to wear, not perfect, but what a watch! Highly regretted. Best, Nicolas ...

I love this,

But I would have to take the Dufour, if forced to choose, something about the rose gold and dial color layout. No doubt this is an icon, in the PT iteration.

Yes! [nt]

Other priorities in place

But I believe there will come a time I will find the means to own it.

Still doable.... [nt]

 By: amanico : July 19th, 2020-10:55

One of the best designed chronos, technically and aesthetically, no doubt.

 By: vitalsigns : July 19th, 2020-11:02
Seems like there is a division amongst those who've owned one... between....wearable despite the excessive weight and thickness because it is so damn good in every other respect...sort of a labor of love; and just cannot make the piece work on the wrist d...

I would so love to own a lange

 By: Reuven Malter : July 19th, 2020-11:02
However, have yet to see the right piece and the right price. The emil lange is still No. 1 for me.

It was a nice choice.

 By: Reuven Malter : July 19th, 2020-11:14
Then came JLC making a more precise moonphase for a third of the price.

God bless you! :) [nt]

Of course! [nt]

What model of JLC did you end up preferring? I'd love to see a pic of it!

 By: CR : July 19th, 2020-20:25
I've never owned a JLC but enjoy looking.

Maybe the Master Control calendar?

A watch doesn’t need to be perfect to be a perfect wrist watch

Superbly put. [nt]

I have always preferred the 1815 chronograph

 By: tim5 : July 19th, 2020-12:47
Yes, the Datograph is the original but it _is_ too thick and heavy, I never completely bought into the romans, it kinda can't decide whether it's a sport or a dress watch, I prefer understated (or, better, absent) tachymeters. The essence of this watch (a...

You definitely have a point

 By: tim5 : July 19th, 2020-13:59
I agree that the date + subregister triangle is attractive and, also, is nicely echoed by the triangle formed by the romans, but the dato is just too damn thick and the white-on-black tachymeter is just a little too loud for me. I kinda like the slight as...

Hmmmmmm....

...

I absolutely love some Lange models.

 By: BigAppleBill : July 19th, 2020-14:46
But when I try them on they simply are not made for my wrist.

Perhaps the time only models. But I’m not inspired by them.

 By: BigAppleBill : July 19th, 2020-18:22
I lusted after a Zeitwerk until I tried it on. It felt like a metal puck on my wrist. Datograph not much better. I admire the highest level of craftsmanship that the brand represents, but (for me) too thick and heavy for practical wear.

I see. [nt]

 By: amanico : July 19th, 2020-20:49

IMHO one of The Grail Chronograph

 By: Gelato Monster : July 19th, 2020-17:56
But for now, i am only yearning for Triplesplit ( darth black dial) or Duometre Rattra ( black dial). Both in light cold metal (prefer steel but titanium &tantalum would be ok)

My favorite watch [nt]

Was very comfortable heaviness ...

And winding was incredibly smooth [nt]

No message body

There were 2 different original Datograph dials

 By: Larry Seiden : July 21st, 2020-14:41
NIcolas, Yours is one of the early ones. On the Tachy you'll notice yours says "METER". I guess someone pointed out to Lange that Meter is grammatically incorrect. Later editions read "METERS". Best to WPS, Larry ...
