New Dealer LE: Cellini 40th Anniversary Lange 1815 Up/Down

Nov 13, 2016,06:22 AM

It looks like Lange has begun producing dealer limited editions again. We recently saw the Hour Glass Japan's 20th anniversary Lange watches (the "diamond Darth" trio), and now we see an 1815 Up/Down celebrating New York retailer Cellini's 40th anniversary. It's a white gold 1815 Up/Down with white lacquered dial and a red "40" on the seconds subdial (ref. no. 234.??? so far!). 40 pieces will be produced starting in early 2017. I believe the watch caseback will not say "Cellini" and also will not have a unique LE number XX/40 on it (so purchasers don't have to worry about getting a "bad" number). Retail price of $30,500 USD is almost the same as a standard production 1815 Up/Down.

Longtime Lange followers may recall that 15 years ago, Lange produced a white lacquered dial Lange 1 in platinum for Cellini's 25th anniversary (ref. no. 101.049). That model had thin WG rings around the subdials. I'm not sure if this new 1815 Up/Down will have the same rings, but it doesn't look like it from the pics. I also can't tell if the strap is black or blue.

Cellini, along with Wempe, were the first two authorized Lange dealers in the US and were the only two until about 2001-2002, I believe.

An attractive 1815 made even more appealing. Best Moritz

No caseback pics but...

... it will not have any unique movement decorations. It may say something like "Limited Edition" (without unique numbering) though I'm not sure. The watch can't say "Cellini" due to issues with Rolex.

So the only difference seems to be...

The red 40 on the seconds subdial? Is the dial itself the same colour as the existing model in production? Best E.

The dial will be a "winter" or "snow" white,

the same as the Cellini Anniversary Lange 1. I think the hands will be blue and, with the tiny bit of red, the watch will be red, white and blue. Additionally, the watch will be released over two years-20 in 2017 and 20 in 2018. CR is correct about the nu...

I don't want to sound rude

But is this not a little bit uninspired with just a snow white dial and a red 40. Or is it me......the normal 1815 Auf und Ab (a very charming piece btw) is kinda white dial already with blue hands. So basically the red 40 is the striking factor here. Why...

Speculating here

but I think Cellini considers this white their white.

Makes sense. I think Cellini's Lange 1 LE was the first Lange with a white dial back in 2002....

Other white-dial Lange LEs that followed in the next few years included the 1815 Walter Lange Up/Down LE (223.021, 223.026, 223.032) and the Lange 1 Moonphase made for the Italian market (109.049). I would like to see this new Cellini LE side-by-side with...

Interested..

A good looking watch LE or not

I find the Arabic numbers, blue hands and subdials very charming. An affordable lovely watch, I am not sure I would pay the extra for the LE though.

You changed my mind

That is very reasonable.

I like the subtle markings for this LE
