Pick one of the three options below that it could be after servicing:

1.) 7.7mm (thickness is “maintained” from pre service: you scratched off 1mm over the years, they keep the thickness and make it look new. But it’s still 1mm less than the 7.8mm it left the factory with)
2.) 7.6mm (1mm shaved off from when you brought it in but looks brand new. Now 2mm less than new from the factory)
3.) 7.8mm (thickness added back and restored to what it was when brand new)

I’ve had my saxonia serviced and it of course looked brand new. But I want to know which concept happened from the above 3 options

Lange service Laser welding - which of these 3 options happens?

Let’s say it’s Lange Saxonia. If the watch were 7.8mm in height/thickness when brand new, and then you scratch it up a bunch from normal wear over 10 years, the watch is now let’s say 7.7mm because you scratched off a layer from normal wear. Then when Lan...

I think it'd be 7.6-7.7mm, definitely not 7.8mm.

To the best of my knowledge, deeper scratches and dings are first laser-welded. The really shallow swirls/hairlines would not get laser-welded because there are a million of them. Then the whole surface gets polished, taking care not to change the origina...

Process would be as described by CR

meaning filling the bigger scratches first, and polishing would get rid of the smaller ones. As a overall remark, the correct unit would rather be in the hundreds rather than tenth of millimeter. One could even argue that a scratch is rather increasing th...

Thanks! Here’s a picture. I’m worried about how much metal would need to come off. Thoughts?

I’m pretty OCD about case shape and size and so have a concern I’ll notice the slimmer profile ...

I just had my Saxonia serviced and polished.

The process was described to me by the manager at the NYC shop. The laser "process" will fill in the deeper scratches and add weight to the watch. Yes metal is added to the watch. No, I did not weigh my watch before and after but the results are spectacul...

The alternative…

Is to live with the scratches and dings, which I greatly prefer to a generic new-looking watch case that looks nothing like the familiar one I dropped off for servicing. But others may prefer new/pristine! Depends which outcome would satisfy vs. bother yo...
