Lange Datograph first generation. A picture of THE icon.

It is strange how things are going in life...

When I saw the release of the Datograph, I was completely mad about it. I knew I would have one, and 5 or 6 years after, I got mine.

I was very happy with it as I considered ( and still consider ) it as an iconic chronograph.

The only curious thing is that it didn't sit very well on my wrist, but I loved it so much that I didn't really care.

In 2011... Stolen.

And I immediately felt the miss, the cruel absence. I never thought I would let it go...

Anyway, each time I fall on these old pictures of mine, I feel the love for that watch. There are very few watches I like with a date. The Datograph is one of these few exceptions.TheDate is part of the concept.

I would even say it better... without Date, it wouldn't be the same, nor it would be better!

Maybe one day, I will get another one in my collection...

Best,

Nicolas

Hope it can be found and returned one day. I saw a pre-owned 1st gen recently, not long after holding a new 2nd gen on hand. Knowing that it may oppose to many purists' view, I consider 2nd gen has a dial with a better proportion (in terms of bezel to dia...

The problem with the second generation is....

Look at this picture I took at the SIHH in 2012 when the 2d generation was unveiled: The dial of the '12 version looks big, almost empty, somehow. And the power reserve kills what made the Datograph THE Datograph, perfect proportions, a magic triangle, a ...

I can see your points, and the Roman numerals at 2, 6, 10 fill up really well in the dial of 1st gen

some of the finest photography on this site. Nico what are your thoughts on the 1815 chrono in black? Does it come as a successor to the dato and updown minus date?

Being your not a ‘date’ lover, does that make it an ideal alternative in your view?

So sorry about your loss, my friend

hope you can find the replacement soon. absolutely agree, this is an ICON. i tried it several times during GTG, and same like you, it did't sit well on my wrist too. maybe the thickness & the heft of Platinum make it a top heavy watch. nevertheless, it;s ...

Excellent points

...regarding the sublime symmetry and true panda-ness of the 1st generation (compared to the second generation). The 39mm size probably makes it wear better (more snug), and it is probably much lighter than the 41mm 2nd generation. However, don’t you thin...
