Help needed for 1st Lange

Jan 03, 2021,06:53 AM

Hi guys

I’ve recently been exposed to this poisonous brand which I can’t stop admiring.

Currently I own a 5164a, 5711g, Breguet La Tradition. I am planning to sell the 5711g for either the 1815 Chrono or the Datograph (non up/down).

Just wanted to hear some advice from u guys as I’m not a watch expert by any means.

1. Is it worth replacing the 5711g for a datograph or 1815 Chrono ?

2. Which of the 2.. newer 1815 Chono or older datograph non up/down ?

Ideally the datograph would be a perfect choice as I’ll have a steel Patek, white gold breguet & platinum datograph.

But is getting an old datograph worth over the newer 1815 ?

Happy to give you rationale if you want more, but it seems to me you pretty much know the answers to your questions.

Is it more than just a date? The old Datograph still fetches significantly more than a new 1815.

Supply & Demand; Platinum vs. Gold

You can obtain a 1st gen dato for less than or equal to an 1815 chrono. I literally made this decision in the summer with the attached. It sounds like you want the platinum 1st gen though and that's one reason for price disparity (with 1815 Chrono's in go...

A question I believe many of us here have considered

Interesting questions that I believe many of us here considered. As I don’t know you or your preferences, I can only speak from my experience and perspective. I am 6ft4 with a 7 inch wrist. I never found the original dato comfortable for long periods of w...

Yes good points;

1) wearability; 1815 chrono is thinner than either datos (will be much thicker the than a 5712) 2) Platinum or not; Datos come in Pt, but 1815 “only comes in white gold, rose gold” 3) of course Date or not... 4) 1815 has longer power reserve along with ne...

Welcome to the world of Lange!

Here's my 2 cents in response to your questions. 1. Personally, I've always found all of Patek's Nautilus/Aquanaut models to be unattractive -- never felt any aesthetic connection to them -- so I'd say, "Yes, it's worth replacing the 5711g with a Dato or ...

Thank you everyone !

Thanks for the replies everyone ! I will be heading down to the shop to experience Lange for the first time. I must say I'm more inclined towards getting the Datograph even more now. Having said that, it seems like there is a wearability issue with the Da...
