Two auctions this weekend, Phillips and Antiquorum...

I don't follow auctions closely but was looking at some of the results.
The Luna Mundi pair was quite low, but these were never popular watches. I remember when they were offered new and dealers couldn't sell them. I was offered a pair at a deep discount and declined. I recall that many people wanted the northern hemisphere version -- they thought it was a more attractive watch (ursa major vs. southern cross) -- and didn't want the southern hemisphere version. I was surprised to see them at $100K awhile ago, honestly.
But the "Dufour Dato" sold for 60,000 CHF, which was quite strong, and some of the older (and not especially popular) Langematik and Lange 1 models also did reasonably well.
I am not disagreeing with you, of course. I think many Langes have not done well at auctions, historically.
It's the FPJ results that are mind-boggling to me (as well as one of the Omegas that sold for >4x what I always thought it was worth). Now I see where all the money is going that people have been saving on travel and entertainment expenses over the past 4 months!
