The ergonomics may be less than 100%, but the watch is. If I can be honest, I like this version of the DS more than either of the triple split from a purely aesthetic perspective.
Here I have to disagree with you which is rare mon ami. I actually prefer the power reserve to the big date as I like simple chronographs WITHOUT a date like our beloved 5070G, VC Malte Chrono, Breguet 5247BB, Duometre Chronograph, etc...
