This is a very interesting Dato. I wish it was one that could be easily viewed before committing. I wonder if the lumen dial is a fad that will stand the test of time? Your three wrist shots illustrating the different dial colours in different lights were remarkable. Best,

Hands on review of the Lange & Söhne Datograph Up / Down Lumen

 By: foversta : January 3rd, 2019-13:11
It is maybe a way to illuminate the long winter nights but Lange & Söhne is used to unveil its "Lumen" watches at the end of the year. The Datograph Up / Down Lumen, which was presented in the last quarter of 2018 is the fourth watch of its kind from ...

Great review of a lovely piece.

I have always viewed the Dato U/D as a significant downgrade from the original Datograph.

No other way to say it, the watch looked much better to my eyes in the smaller case. This version, however, is stunning, and easily my favorite model of the newer reference. I would not have thought a Lumen concept on the Datograph would be successful, bu...

I have to agree

The first generation Datograph was sublime, I usually prefer a larger watch, but the Dato belongs in a 39mm case. ALS should have discontinued it there, the up/down has its place, but diluted the datographs legacy in my opinion. I will never forget the fi...

Well done foversta!

For much that I appreciate the mighty Dato and find the previous Zeitwerk and L1 Lumen iterations extremely cool and superbly accomplished this one leaves me kind of cold. Not sure if the Dato is not made to me "lumed", or if they just don't got it right....

Excellent.

Beautiful we can see the many faces this watch has to offer, I like it. Thanks for sharing, FX. Vte

Nice article FX

But the watch leaves me kinda indifferent. The first gen Dato was a milestone, the second gen was an attempt to re generate interest, which failed IMHO. This iteration is yet another attempt to restart the Dato engine so to speak. It is time for a complet...

another angle to see data again, but would be even better to have some photos of the lumen effects in the dark to “complete” the review.

Thanks for the terrific review
