Hard place!

I agree that the legibility of the Month and Days indicators are a bit harder compared to PP5270. Yet; there's a reason for that in particular for Lange's design language. Although the aesthetical application is purely subjective, I appreciate the thought and the tradition comes with it:

Sometimes, Lange puts its "Bauhaus" design language forward while talking about the specific design choices for their watches. I've talked about ths in one of my posts on IG, however simply it means every indicator has its hierarchy in design. Logically; it is obvious that day of the week and month indications are not equal. You need date -sometimes day- first, then month and lastly year. However, if you need to read the year, there's something wrong going on.
Based on this hierarchy and its Saxon roots, Lange puts the date at the most prominent position. Because they simply say "you need the date first and foremost and you can read the day a second later" which I can agree. I appreciate this because of one more reason; which is Lange created its own design language. Look at the early QP pieces from Switzerland or chronograph pieces. Unfortunately they all look alike. Same goes for VC and PP that had been talked in here.
I applause Lange for bringing such a fresh look to the industry. Is it more beautiful? Purely subjective, to me I like it. I appreciate the equilateral triangle formed by big date and sub-dials and the symmetry comes within. However I also agree the legibility of day/months are less than the other two.

Finally: The particular version's grey dial is an absolute killer.

Dimensions; Datograph is thicker (1 mm I suppose) than Patek, however balances this on the wrist with its diameter and lug design. And an area of -IMO- no competition, movement itself justifies the thickness very much.
Whereas Patek is more subtle in size and a tad comfortable; yet every choice is a trade-off; thus does not offer the same beautiful movement as Datograph.

And the price difference between the two is already been talked here. Ridonkulous smile

Whichever you choose though, both are absolutely sublime pieces and no place for regrets at this level!

Datograph Perpetual Calendar...your thoughts on this...

I’ve been reading about this particular watch...for some time. And would like to hear more inputs specifically the WG model. Thanks in advance!

What are you comparing it to?

A mechanical marvel, for sure, but I’ve never felt that Lange got the aesthetics right. The Patek PCCs are IMO better designed if not as mechanically impressive. Cheers, John

Thanks John...

I was comparing it with the 5270g.

I know you’re talking gold, but I was looking at platinum. ALS is a beautiful design, amazing movement, attractive gray dial, and about $100k less money. Patek gold/orange dial is weird, it’s $100k more, and it says “Patek Philippe” on the dial. I’d buy t...

the grey dial also appeals to me more. Thanks bobernet!

You do have a point...guess I’d have to wear my corrective lens if ever.

It is in the three best PC Chronographs, along with the Patek 5970 and the Vacheron Excellence Platinum.

The Patek 5970... The Vacheron: The Lange. The Lange has the advantage of its movement, which is hard to beat. But I dislike the small sub dials in the months and days sub dials. Moreover, the Datograph PC is the less legible among the three. Best, Nicola...

Thanks Nico...

what you said is true about the sub dials of the Lange. In your opinion,is the VC and PP better than the Lange?

Hmmm...

Thanks for the points you posted. Between the two,the Dato Perp is the clear winner. Wonder why your friend chose the Datograph lumen though.

You have certainly made me understand the reason behind the Dato Perp’s “complicated” dial. Lange has always been about symmetry and their uniqueness compared to their Swiss counterparts. And I agree that the grey dial is a killer!

As usual, torn between Lange and Patek...

These are by far my two favorite brands. I can share a bit my thoughts if you will allow me. I own two of each: a Lange 1 TZ in platinum and the Triple Split and a Patek 5270p (salmon dial) and a Nautilus 5990. Each of these pieces have very, very differe...

the feed is very helpful. It’s quite evident, the PP is the more elegant watch. Not taking anything away from the Lange,it has it’s own appeal. Thanks for sharing the link.

The PT version never excited me because of the dial color - which Lange uses for most PT not black pieces and which is a bit too dull for my taste. I always loves the WG version, here everything works for me. As usual you have to see it in the metal, on p...
