I was a big fan of the original 1815 boxes with the internal pouch to hold all the papers -- as well as the original square boxes where the papers were stored underneath the watch holder. We never needed more than that! And there was the third (larger) original box style, used for the more elaborate watches such as the Tourbillon PLM, in which the papers stored next to the watch carrier.

The common denominator among all three of these original box styles was that the papers (really just 2 small booklets plus the cardboard warranty card) were all stored somewhere inside the inner box. This was all pre-Richemont. Old pics of the 3 original box styles are shown below.

But then the books got bigger and fatter under Richemont, so they needed a little black leather wallet (small at first) that could no longer fit inside the inner box. That wallet was sandwiched between the inner and outer boxes, and Lange briefly used a plastic credit card warranty card. One day some group of collectors might go crazy those Langes with the plastic credit card warranties, since there are relatively few of them. smile

This was followed by the larger Das Buch Zur Uhr warranty/service book (which few people use) with the full-page warranty certificate needing a larger black wallet. Certainly a more grand presentation, though one that takes up much more space!

Here were the 3 original (pre-Richemont) box styles, for those who haven't seen them. The square box in the top pics was used for most Langes -- probably 80% of those sold (Lange 1, Langematik, etc.). The flat rectangular box in the middle was used for the least expensive Langes, typically 1815s. The largest box on the bottom was used for the most expensive Langes (but ignore the 1815 Moonphase shown below -- that watch normally came in the flat rectangular box).

When I reacquired my ALS 1815 a couple months ago, it came with an old style box that is showing some wear. I’ve been on the hunt, high and low for a newer style ALS box in better shape. Well look what arrived today, in top shape! I’m thrilled! ...

Haha, I wish…

Took about 2 months of searching. I contacted ALS in Germany, several AD’s, several non-AD’s with whom I’ve done business with before, various other sources that sell watch boxes and accessories. Apparently ALS Germany won’t sell them separately, and no o...

Bravo!

For the very interesting history lesson! I’ve owned a few 1815’s, one came with the square box, (as you have shown in your first pic), the other three with the longer box, as I have pictured in my original post For me, the box I just acquired is the more ...

Yes, I really like this current presentation of yours!

Lange definitely mixed and matched those original boxes. Sometimes 1815s would come in the larger boxes, etc. I think Lange would provide a different box type upon request of the customer or AD.

Thanks CR!
