Cannot believe my luck...

I expressed an interest with my local boutique that I would like to have the Richard Lange Jumping Seconds in platinum when the model was launched two years ago. After what seemed like an eternity, the boutique called and advised me apologetically that all pieces allocated to them were taken up (needless to say, by other major customers). I was naturally disappointed. I then checked with other overseas boutiques. No luck...

If you had read my report on the Concorso d'Eleganza, you would know that I went to Italy last month. Since I was scheduled to go to India (for a bridge competition) in another week's time, I took the opportunity and made a detour to Verona and Milan, for sight-seeing and pleasure, perhaps do a little bit of shopping as well.

On the second day in Verona, i was strolling leisurely down Via Nazzini (where all the trendy fashion boutiques are located) and I suddenly spotted this piece in a window. In less time than an eye blink, I was already inside the shop. Apparently, this AD had been sitting on the merchandise for over a year and somehow, had not been able to sell the watch.

I tried my best to hide my excitement and bargained nonchalantly on the price. At the end of the ordeal, we struck a deal at almost 30% off the list price, after VAT discount.

The watch arrived via courier this morning. Voila...

Through a constant force mechanism, the second hand moves by exactly 60 steps per minute and there is a zero reset function to enable accurate time-setting. The watch is limited to 100 pieces.

Boy, am I lucky or what...

Sam

And quite the deal. Did you get the chance to try the triple spilt from your previous post? Is it wearable for an average or slightly larger than average wrist? Best,

the Triple Split is a very nice watch on the wrist, but at

43 mm, it is a little too big for me since it is half a dress watch and half a sporty watch...

Congratulations

You must have good eyes 👀 too! I have spotted only one Special Watch (one my wish list) like that and I bought it in a flash too. Sometimes our ship does come in. Cheers, Cazalea

Congratulations Sam!!

I am shocked that your local AD could not allocate you a piece as you must be one of the biggest collectors around. But this was arguably a blessing as it has saved you 30% which is a pretty huge sum. Good things come to those who wait!!

I suspect ALS wanted to treat its sons (boutiques) equally and allocated the same number of LEs

to each boutique, not that I agree totally with the policy

Congratulations, Sam!

This piece is full of character. The jumping second constant force mechanism has such an understated appeal. And thanks for the reminder that our persistence occasionally does get rewarded. Ken

Thanks Ken

Sam, You know the Chinese saying better than me. Even without it, you are a Bridge player, where similar principles apply. Rarely, your dealt 'hand' can't lose. Remember to 'tip' the spirits...... MTF

LOL, Of course [nt]

We seem to be going to the same places sometimes --- I was passing by Verona a week ago too (and didn't do much more than some shopping in Via Mazzini and seeing Giulietta's house). However, instead of meeting my dream watch, I met by chance one of my for...

I really like Verona

But I believe an angel was here at work and guided you two together. Big congrats to this very desirable RL! Unbelievable that you have not been allocated a piece in the first place. Die you think too long about getting one?

I agree about the angel at work :)

No, I didn't blink. I said yes the moment I put the prototype on my wrist. Nothing could be clearer...I can only blame it on the system

Congrats on such an encounter!
