Anyone with both 1815 up/down and 1815 AC in same collection?

I currently have two Lange watches, Lange 1 in RG and 1815 AC in WG. My wrist size is 6.5 inches~. After getting my Lange 1, I was contemplating between 1815 up/down and 1815 chrono for the longest of time. Although I preferred the up/down aesthetically, 1815 chrono had the attraction of housing the best serially produced chronograph movement in a relatively affordable package compared to the Datograph and Patek 5170. However, when I tried the 1815 chrono, it just didn’t sit right on my wrist. The 48.2 mm lug to lug length kills it for me personally. I also realized that in person, the dial didn’t speak to me.

Now with the 1815 chrono out of the way, I keep going back to 1815 up/down. I really like the watch and it’s a great size. My only pausing thought is whether it will be too similar to my 1815 AC. Further, should I stay put and save the money for a higher end Lange in the future? With 1815 chrono ruled out because of size and dial aesthetics (personal choice), I don’t like any other higher end Langes in the current catalogue. The Datograph is too thick for my taste, the Zeithwerk collection too big in size, and the Langematik perpetual too similar to my 1815 AC (and yes, I did choose the 1815 AC in WG over the Langematik Perpetual honey gold as I preferred the less busy look of the AC. To me, it is one of the best looking calendar watches in the market).

Looking forward to hearing some suggestions.

The smallest high end Lange

is actually the 1815 chrono and at 39.5mm if you find that it does not fit your wrist well, it is unlikely any other high end Lange would fit your wrist well as they are all much larger. The 1815 up and down is a great watch with a gorgeous dial and accur...

It’s the lug to to lug length

1815 up/down, 39.5mm in diameter, is 46mm lug to lug. My 1815 AC, 40mm in diameter, is 47mm lug to lug. The 1815 chrono lug to lug length is 48.2mm which is an issue for me. And yes, you are right, the Datograph is 48.2mm also and the basic Zeitwark model...

as they had all disappointed me for one reason or another. Just me I guess. A Lange One, an 1815 chrono, a 1815 up and down, a 1815 in 38.5mm, a Saxonia in 37mm and a 1815 moonphase in honey gold. Despite various setbacks with these watches, I am still co...

My two cents

While I don’t have both watches and ultimately the answer is what always comes up which is it is entirely a personal preference but here is my two cents. I do see the differences between the 1815 AC and the 1815 up/down (especially the fact that the up/do...

Both the RG Lange 1 and the WG 1815 AC are wonderful watches. You've already done extremely well with those. I "only" own a WG 1815 Up / Down, and while I absolutely love everything about this watch, I think it might be a bot too similar to your AC. If yo...

I would not buy the up down for sure. Its not just the dial.

Its the movement that looks more similar than any other lange movement. You could think about the Richard Lange or an older limited edition like the emil lange or even the nice and affordable 1815 sidestep, but i would wait until something new comes to th...

1815 Chrono comes close to being a perfect watch and I have a small wrist. The UP and Down seems out of balance to me.

Have you considered?

the Lange Saxonia Annual Calendar? It wears smaller than the 1815 AC with a lug to lug distance of 47.4 mm. It also has a nice outsize date (Lange DNA!) - it makes sense to want to have a legible date on an AC. Also, in my opinion the layout is more balan...
