Almost Made an Offer

Dec 15, 2018,00:38 AM

I met a friend for dinner and prior to our meeting I asked him about an ALS he showed me some years ago. He told me stopped wearing it so I suggested he bring it to our dinner thinking I might offer to buy it. Once I saw the condition, I changed my mind about making an offer.

The back side looked fine. Polishing is an option. He lives close by so I can always reconsider.

I thought the same thing.

He's the antithesis of active. A sedentary composer who's desk bound most days. His eyesight is bad and that may explain the scratches.

Lange could make it look like new again...

As long as the service history is ok and the price imo

I need to ask about box, papers etc.

I would be surprised if he ever had it serviced. No joke, he told me at dinner he took it to his local watch store so they could set the time and wind it for him. He's a very unique character. He has friends and acquaintances perform the things most of us...

+1....

Here are "before" pics of a case that Lange totally redid -- came back looking brand new and factory fresh (perfect bevels on the lugs, etc.). ...

Do you have any after photos? [nt]

Here you go -- same watch...

And yes, the German dial was swapped for an English dial (long story). ...

Bring it to Lange for service and it comes back brand new

Lange even applies Laser welding to repair dings and deep scratches. Absolutely amazing how they restore their watches in 100% original state.

They really can do things you can't imagine. I put a big divot in the bezel of my L1. I figured that's the end of it. The NY service center took one look and said no worries, we can fix this, we have the exact alloy to weld in, re-profile, and polish. No ...

Brutal...

😳 Looks like the watch has been spun in a washing machine... Best, Thomas

for the recommendation to let Lange repair the case. He told me the watch, which I believe is an ALS Saxonia (I'm not overly familiar with model iterations), was about 15 years old. I have no idea what to offer so I need to do some research before we meet...
