1815 Thin Honeygold "Homage to F. A. Lange"

Oct 23, 2020,20:21 PM

It arrived incredibly quickly.

The watch was launched to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of the birth of F. A. Lange and was unveiled (along with two other models) at the Watches & Wonders Exhibition in Shanghai from Sep 9 -13. As to be expected, all three models feature timepieces housed in honey-colored gold - an ALS proprietary metal that is exceedingly hard.

Because the two models share the same movement (L0931.1), the 1815 was often compared to the plainer time-only Saxonia Thin. Nevertheless, at 38 mm x 6.3 mm, the 1815 has more pleasing dimensions (Saxonia Thin is 37 x 5.9)

The watch is limited to 175 pieces.

Without further ado, here are some hastily taken smart phone photos:

Note the two-part fired enamel dial and Arabic indices.

The three-quarters plate has a frosted-grain finish, plus black-rhodium filing for the engraving on the balance cock, reminiscent of classic pocket watches. The watch is manually wound.

This is doubtlessly a dressy watch, as it will fit easily with any shirt cuffs.

Since this is my 15th Lange, I will show you an obligatory family portrait smile Can you recognized all the models?

Have a nice weekend... I know I will surely have one.

Sam

And your Lange collection is incredible!

It is indeed very pleasing to the eyes

 By: samwan : October 23rd, 2020-20:35
Thanks for your kind words

I was expecting a wait of several months

 By: samwan : October 23rd, 2020-20:51
Looks like production was not interrupted by Covid-19, unlike F P Journe's Resonance...

Hehe

 By: samwan : October 23rd, 2020-20:52
I often wonder how it will all end....

Actually a Zeitwerk

 By: samwan : October 23rd, 2020-21:48
I am kicking myself hard for passing over the Zeitwerk HWK eight years ago when it was offered to me after I visited the manufacture ...

It's a lovely, understated watch...

 By: mdg : October 23rd, 2020-21:17
...part of me wants to see a seconds hand to give it some 'action.' If I were looking for a watch for my son (I am), this would be in the running. You have an amazing collection, but I am drawn to the the Cabaret : )

Haha

 By: samwan : October 23rd, 2020-21:50
I got the Cabaret through the Internet, at a reasonable price, after the model was discontinued. It is now wearing a strap made of vintage elephant skin....

I will never be rich enough to buy it...

 By: mdg : October 24th, 2020-15:28
...but this Cabaret is a good candidate if you could have just one watch. ...

I was about to say the same thing!

 By: blau : October 24th, 2020-04:25
Funny that with all those amazing complicated watches, it would be the Cabarat that we both want a closer look at

Congratulations Sam!

 By: sham1 : October 23rd, 2020-21:30
I thought these watches would only be delivered in December to mark the 175th anniversary on 7th December. I am pleased to say that I too have ordered one from the Singapore boutique and finally, I am able to own a Sam Wan watch!

LOL so far only two of them were delivered to HK

 By: samwan : October 23rd, 2020-21:53
Good for you for ordering one. I heard through the grapevine that Lange has stopped taking orders and will be imposing new conditions for selling the watch. Have you heard the same thing?

To order mine Sam, it was perseverance on my part!

 By: sham1 : October 23rd, 2020-22:11
I spoke to the KL boutique (owned by Sincere Watches) and they had an allocation of only one watch! Then I called up the London boutique (owned by Wempe) and their allocation was also poor. I wanted to find a Lange boutique owned by Richemont as I knew th...

Yes the Paris boutique is owned by Dubai

 By: samwan : October 23rd, 2020-22:53
Is Keith still with the Singapore boutique? I like the Tourbograph but I will have to sell my company first 🙂

Dubai or Dubail? ;) [nt]

You are too modest Sam!

 By: sham1 : October 24th, 2020-02:49
Anyway, you have one of the most amazing collections among us purists so if the Lange 1815 honey gold is good enough for you, it is most reassuring for me!

Not sure about Keith

 By: sham1 : October 24th, 2020-02:50
I was offered exceptional service by Mandy.!

He just liked my post on Facebook

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-17:05
He is probably still there...

New TB?

 By: WatchEater : October 23rd, 2020-21:46
Is that the new limited TB on the bottom right too of the second pic?!

You mean the group photo?

 By: samwan : October 23rd, 2020-21:59
That is the 1815 Tourbillon Handwerskunst in rose gold, limited to 30 pieces.

Yup

 By: WatchEater : October 24th, 2020-00:50
Delicious! All you need now is a flavor of Zeitwerk?

Thank you... [nt]

 By: samwan : October 23rd, 2020-21:59

Congrats! I just picked mine up today.

 By: DarrenKats : October 23rd, 2020-22:13
Absolutely love it. The honey gold is such a subtle warm color. And the enamel dial is amazing. Perfect dress watch. ...

Congratulations!

 By: samwan : October 23rd, 2020-22:54
Nice shots as well....

A very elegant watch. But what a collection !! :)

 By: emcquillan : October 23rd, 2020-23:04
I must admit on this 175th anniversary the dial beats out the backside. The enamel and simple dial is close to perfect, and the movement albeit beautiful ... well Lange sets a high bar. Very nice though. Again stunning collection and thank you for sharing...

Unfortunately I am a retired person

 By: samwan : October 23rd, 2020-23:21
And do not have a lot of opportunities to dress up. Will find every excuse though...

Impressive collection.

 By: aris d : October 23rd, 2020-23:29
It's a pity that Lange doesn't offer the Cabaret. You surely miss a Zeitwerk and the Odysseus. Aris

Well....the Odysseus is a long story

 By: samwan : October 23rd, 2020-23:46
I will tell it when the time is right...

Glad you concur Nico. [nt]

A timeless beauty.

 By: Watchonthewrists : October 24th, 2020-01:38
Huge Congrats on your NWA 🤗. Looks amazing in your stunning collection

Thank you...

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-03:01
In fact, it is one of the more modest ones in the group

Many congratulations dear Sam!

 By: Seeks : October 24th, 2020-02:17
Beautiful watch. 38mm by only 6.3mm thickness. Wonderful ! Enjoy this beauty in great health!

Thanks

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-02:59
The finishing on the movement surpassed my expectations

It will probably be two weeks before I can

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-03:34
Find an occasion to wear it, but thanks in any case....

Beautiful Sam, and amazing company it will keep.

I am without a Lange these days but I have to say this one caught my eye, specifically it was the honey gold. I’ve been on the fence about another honey gold piece for more than a year, then this one comes along too. For now I’ve taken no action, perhaps ...

These days if you want a special edition Lange

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-04:32
Or even an Odysseus, you have to clear some hurdles

Exactly.... [nt]

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-05:36

You have a fantastic collection and i congratulate that you got your hands on this very rare piece.

 By: Reuven Malter : October 24th, 2020-04:53
Do you think there is going to be a regular 1815 slim (regular RG case, silver Dial, regular movement finish) anytime soon? Thanks!

Beats me

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-05:40
Given that Lange has 20+ boutiques around the world, I believe the trend is to roll out more special editions to capture more handsome gross margins. In other words, there will be less reliance on authorized dealers....

wow...you've gorgeous set of 1815s i suppose !

 By: mahesh : October 24th, 2020-07:56
esp. that 1815 rattrapante PC - thats pinnacle of this Lange family !! cdt, mahesh.,

Hehe...

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-07:58
At one point I thought that would be my exit watch

Nice new edition to the collection.

 By: Nicetomeetyou : October 24th, 2020-09:02
And what a collection!

This gives me an idea...

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-09:18
One day I may create posts showing my timepieces by brand. At this moment, the Pateks slightly edge out the Lange's.

Another amazing addition Sam...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : October 24th, 2020-09:06
Have to compliment you on the incredible Lange collection. Love the RL Pour le Merite models and of course the Datograph. Don't see a Zeitwerk anywhere so maybe that is something to add in the future 🤔 😉. Regardless, we'll done sir and again compliments f...

Yes, the PLM and the fusee chain

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-09:23
Is indeed one of a kind. The Datograph is a Lumen and as for the Zeitwerk, I somehow foolishly passed over the HWK edition several years ago....

Yes I saw, I have the same RL PLM 😉😁...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : October 24th, 2020-09:34
Did not know the Datograph was a lumen, even more special 👍 As for the HKG Zetiwerk, maybe you can still get one if one ever becomes available from a collector or you could just get a standard Zeitwerk as I love mine. Maybe even go for a Zeitwerk Striking...

But now I have to buy that watch (Zeitwerk HWK)

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-16:59
At s 30% premium

I actually owned the white gold Zeitwerk temporarily

 By: samwan : October 25th, 2020-08:56
A few years back, through a telephone bid, I successfully placed the winning bid for the watch at a good price (around USD 50,000 including commission) in an auction. Later, when we compared notes, I discovered I was bidding against a good friend of mine....

Congrats!

I'm embarrassed to admit that I unfortunately recognize all the Langes. Does that mean I should be locked up in a mental hospital?

Excellent! And we can admire Yokozuna's 5980/1A!

 By: patrick_y : October 25th, 2020-15:11
I've heard of a "watchdog" basically a dog that keeps an eye out for trouble. But you have a "watchcat" a cat that wears a watch!

LOL

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-17:01
Yes, we both should be...

I saw a movie called "Quartet"

 By: patrick_y : October 25th, 2020-15:16
I saw a movie called "Quartet" directed by Dustin Hoffman and made in 2012. It's about a bunch of musicians, opera singers, and performers who all live in a retirement house together. I was thinking one day, maybe they will have a retirement house for peo...

LOL Patrick

 By: samwan : October 25th, 2020-17:02
I have that movie in DVD....I collect DVDs, Blu-ray's as well as watches...

At least you have a lot of movies you can watch during Coronavirus!

 By: patrick_y : October 26th, 2020-11:22
Here in California, we were stuck at home for a while, couldn't go out even for a walk nor even do some gardening due to the fires creating toxic air!

The DVDs are double-stacked

 By: samwan : October 25th, 2020-17:28
This is roughly 25% of my collection ...

Big congrats to this catch: an extra fine Lange.

By: COUNT DE MONET : October 24th, 2020-14:14
The combination of Honey Gold and enamel dial is superb.

Thank you Moritz... [nt]

Stunning piece and an amazing collection 👍

Haha...thanks

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-17:10
At this rate I may soon need a third box for my Lange's

Thank you for the support

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-17:08
Another time only watch is incoming....one with a rather special movement

No way!! A PLM time only would be awesome and my best guess.. [nt]

 By: doubleup : October 24th, 2020-17:41
That would be a crazy sleeper watch

Haha...not a Lange [nt]

 By: samwan : October 24th, 2020-18:58

Your Lange collection is a marvel!

 By: Obeezy : October 25th, 2020-18:53
That Handerwerskunst is surely something! Had the opportunity to purchase one and passed. Long story! You need the Zeitwerk though. The rest of your collection is great too! I remember your thematic post a while back.

The HWK models are all great

 By: samwan : October 25th, 2020-19:49
You must be kicking yourself hard
