Had a chance to handle this at the boutique…
It’s a gorgeous watch, to be sure… And very special given the honey gold case and distinctive gold printing. But it was a bit disappointing to me. It’s pretty under the radar (could be good or bad, depending) — and there’s not a huge gap between it and a regular 1815 Chrono in my opinion. If you’re ambivalent between the honey gold and rose gold, or if you prefer the horizontal layout of the subregisters on the standard 1815 (as I do), then the standard watch is almost a better choice — even without consideration of the added cost and lack of availability here.

The complication the dial the movement, it has it all!
No doubt about it,
Though of all the Langes I’ve had the opportunity to handle, whether the original PLM tourbillon or double split etc etc this is the one I’d choose in a heartbeat.
No issues at all with legibility
But the mesmerizing dial made remembering to read the time… difficult

A chrono vs a rattrapante not a huge gap?
I respectfully disagree. I also prefer the registers in this format over the chrono. But that’s just me . The gilt script over the black dial is also very pleasing. I don’t feel this piece and the 1815 chrono are competing. Different ballpark imho.

...is something that I find out of place in a movement of this category. i would like to hear about this from collectors and experts here (I am neither one nor the other, BTW).
Your friend is a lucky man, this is a superlative piece!
I'm curious as to when Lange will produce a regular production model, and in which case/dial combination.

I’m in full agreement! And with regard to the dial arrangement, I prefer it to the sunken sub dials as well.
