Thanks all the input!

I have asked ALS if they can let me know the cause of the 'oxidation'? As indicated in one of my replies, my present concern is from the pictures, it looks like somehow water got in. Given that I am the 1st and original owner, and it's only been serviced once and by ALS, I am naturally concerned if this means that somehow the case integrity is compromised or something. The only time this watch gets anywhere near water is when I wash my hands; the watch's never been immersed in water, not even once.
Anyway, thank you all again for your input. Cannot wait to get back my 1815 and wear it again...

1815 Chrono - Anyone experienced this 'oxidation' before?

 By: Chye : February 24th, 2020-23:17
Hi all, Just wanted to check with the forum if anyone's experience something similar, and find out what's the likely cause. So, sometime in late Sep 19, I sent in my 1815 Chrono. for servicing; I overwound the spring, and it broke. Very shortly after, the...

No. Very strange... [nt]

Did ALS indicate a cause for the oxidation

I would at least ask them if this is more common and who is liable.

Yes, still waiting for ALS to get back to me on its cause.

Really surprised that this happened for a Lange.

I think they should cover it under warranty.

Nonethess if it continues. you could start a new vintage/patinated lange collection trend. Actually it could develop into something uniquely sexy lange

No warranty

I am the 1st owner of the watch and I got it in 2014 so the original purchase warranty's long over. I suppose an argument could be made that it's a QC issue and they should replace it for free. I will see what ALS says but I am resigned to paying extra li...

I did consider keeping it as it is.

When ALS first notified me about the 'oxidation', and I did not have the benefit of the pictures, I thought they were just random specks which I was totally ok with. I am perfectly fine with patina-ed/ imperfect dials, but a lot of love I have for this wa...

Did water get in the watch? [nt]

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : February 25th, 2020-06:57

Water? That's the part that worries me.

 By: Chye : February 25th, 2020-17:11
Does that mean the integrity of the case is compromised? I would be very surprised if water got in. I am the 1st owner, and it's only been serviced once and with ALS since I got it in 2014. I don't wear it for swimming, when i run/ exercise, shower etc. A...

Something is not right here for sure

May I ask how the watch was over wound?

Over wound the spring?

 By: kkochheiser : February 25th, 2020-07:07
According to my watchmaker this is something that would require a very great amount of strength in a modern manual watch. I wonder about moisture causing both issues.

Actually that's the 2nd time I over wound it...

 By: Chye : February 25th, 2020-17:20
I don't think I am very rough with it, I have various other manual wind watches before and I wind them just fine. Maybe just bad luck. All along I have been following the instructions stated in the manual - wind until the crown resists turning and then tu...

I had this happen to a Datograph

 By: Stylophile : February 25th, 2020-10:54
I did not notice it first when I sent the watch in for service ( watch is from around 2001); on close inspection it seemed “swirling “ on the edges of the dial; and was really hard to see on a black dial they recommended changing the dial which I did; how...

How did you end up over winding the watch?

 By: icecube4000 : February 25th, 2020-17:24
No intention to derail the topic but I am curious how you broke the spring. I have few watches and I am always afraid of over winding.

I really cannot recall any specific incident at all

 By: Chye : February 26th, 2020-21:48
I just remembered winding as usual like what I did hundreds of times before, and then the winding just went slack. Anyway lesson learnt, hence from now I am not going to try to utilise the full power reserve by winding it to the max (around 55-58 turns, b...

Further Update - ALS' come back to advise..

"... the reason of oxidation is due to the aging of your watch." Frankly, that's left me a bit cold given my personal knowledge of the history of this particular 2014 sports. Anyway it is what it is. Thanks again all for those chimed in, much appreciated!...
