You are absolutely right.

Though I was not able to find a cnfiguration tapering form 20 mm to 16mm.
Also it would be interesting to know the thickness of their straps.
Too much thickness will put off theat elegant presence.

A. Lange & Söhne - Suitable rubber strap?

 By: greatpa : August 22nd, 2020-02:24
Since the launch of the Lange Odysseus' rubber strap, I have been SEARCHING the internet for a third party rubber strap worthy to fit the Lange 1. If you ask me the strap should fall under these catagories: 20 mm tapering down to 16 mm Thickness between 2...

non whatsoever. A Lange 1 shouldn’t be combined with a rubber strap, not in my book. Wish you luck in finding a suitable one. Regards, George

Thank you George,

for your input. You are right, it really is a delicate matter to find a suitable strap that is not supplied from Lange themselves.

Hello @greatpa, RubberB.com

They offer rubber straps with crocodile leather on top. See “structure series”. George Edit: oh, I see you already found them

You are absolutely right.

Try a perlon strap

Like from military watches. Somehow I associate a L1 with the twenties...

Great tip,

 By: greatpa : August 22nd, 2020-06:32
but I had more imagined the advantage of a rubber strap with the looks of a leather/alligator strap combined.

There is a manufacturere who does do aligator straps from rubber

Search the internet, I don't recall the maker anymore. In the US based, as far as I recall.

Thank you,

I see that RubberB makes 'vegan leather strap', though the configurations are limited.

Thank you.

This is the Lange 1 reference 101.001.

I’ll have to keep that reference in mind, I’ll

Get a Lange 1 one of these days.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Canvas straps look nice, but might add a little too much roughness to the overall feel. That said I do not actually own a canvas strap.

Here's my L1 on black nylon strap with rubber lining

works for me! ...

Hirsch Urbane

 By: ablase : August 22nd, 2020-07:26
The Hirsch Urbane would be a good option for you. It’s a bit thick at the lugs, but it fits your other requirements. I liked it and used to wear it occasionally on my Lange 1. Good luck in your search!

Nice suggestion!

That actually looks plausible to me.

Alright,

 By: greatpa : August 22nd, 2020-13:09
Now we are talking. Yes I did stumble upon the 'Urbane' model from Hirsch myself. What put me off was the thickness (4,5 mm), but it does tick color, tapering and elegant look. Would you be able to post a picture of your combination?

No, unfortunately...

 By: ablase : August 22nd, 2020-20:40
I don’t have any pictures of that combination and I sold my Lange 1 a few years ago. Sorry about that. I liked the combination, but my one complaint about the strap is that it has a fairly thick, rounded profile at the lug end that protrudes past the ends...

Thank you for your comment ablase!

This is exactly what concern me. That the thickness of these sporty rubber strap will pull from that 'under the cuff'-feeling. I like the Ian model, but I am afraid it will portray the same problem. The search goes on!

Yes,

It can be very challenging to pair such a niche watch with something not found within the manufacture's own catalogue.
