Which Chrono to add to the collection?

Jun 22, 2021,15:11 PM

I have the good fortune of adding a new A. Lange & Söhne to my collection. I am torn between the 414.028 (White gold with dial in black) and 414.026 (White gold with dial in argenté).

I think that I really can;t go wrong - both are stunning references. I have two Patek chronographs, the 5170R and 5170G and tend to lean towards the black dial for some variety in my collection. I read on the Langepedia website that “the 1815 black dial versions are extremely captivating, stealth and versatile; at times, the legibility is awful.” I’d like to hear the experience of owners with real world wrist time.

Thanks to the community in advance.

It is an amazing piece of horology...but legibility can be quite bad, and that is unfortunately a deal breaker for me My only advice: try both if you can

Black for me.

I would have the same concern on legibility. I prefer the RG version which has blue hands or the black dial in RG with the gold hands.

In general I prefer white metals and it is unfortunate that for this reference none of them have blue hands. This is a matter of preference of course, but a show stopper for me.

026

The strap pushes it over the edge for me…

I chose the boutique edition. Legibility was not my biggest issue, but it was one of a few factors. The major difference to me was how gorgeous the blue numbers shown against the silver/white dial.

I hope you get to see one in person to judge for yourself. I just know that I get that elusive, visceral feeling when I’m wearing it and glance under my cuff at that dial. That’s a feeling and a connection I get with only a few select pieces. I didn’t exp...

Thank you!👍

I like the boutique edition as well. It has a truer look to the original......

The blue is super special and it’s rare to come across it.

My favorite would be the black dial, but the RG version

Legibility is not great, but better than the WG version, at least for my eyes.

Tough choice.

But given your current collection, I would go with the black dial.

Both great but I prefer the black dial for sure. Very striking combo.

But my favorite 1815 chrono combination is the pink gold/argente dial with the blued hands by a large margin. And I prefer white metals but this combo is amazing.

If I already had another in black...

Then I would definitely go with the 026. Quite stunning IMO.

Black dial for me.

Very difficult

While back I looked at those 2 watches as well. The black dial is incredibly powerful, more so then the argent dial. But, there is always a but, the light dial is, if I am not mistaken, a more limited or boutique only version thus theoretically lower prod...

Vote for the black dial here

Black dial in red gold. Addresses the visibility problem, to a large extent. But I don’t care too much about the visibility anyway. Here’s mine, on a brown strap: ...
