Where's the second hand?

Mar 03, 2012,19:12 PM

Late to the thread, but the lack of a center second hand struck me: I was under the impression that all the B-Uhr's were spec'ed to have a sweep second hand (that hacked).

Looking at the movement, there is a friction spring extending to the central pinion, but no additional third wheel to drive it.

No doubting the origin of the watch, but is it possible that the seconds hand and the extra wheel were removed at some point in the past?

Curious,

Tom

Here is a great story about a finding a watch out in the wild. Not just any watch but a A. Lange & Sohne WWII Pilot watch. I wanted to get the story from the horse's mouth. So I contacted Ian and asked if would be so kind as to give the back story. The fo...

Nice find. Did it ever happen to you, Bill? I must confess that at the exception of invoices, I never found nothing in a toolbox. I don't even think I found a toolbox. Best, Nicolas This message has been edited by amanico on 2012-02-25 10:58:00

I hope Ian will have some luck with the Lange people in getting the watch documented and restored. I guess we will have to wait and see. There is still more to play out in this saga. Bill

Nice watch!

One of my friends had one of these restored a few years ago. It took over a year to complete the restoration at Lange and the cost was very high so be prepared for that! Tony

Thanks for the tip. I will relay the message to Ian. I guess it is better that a collector who really likes the watch take it through the paces otherwise enjoy it in its original state. Bill

A rare catch indeed!

Thanks Bill for showing this super piece. I've only seen less than a handful here. The one I've seen was a complete piece, in a metal container with the thigh-strap and a log-book. Your friend is fortunate to have this WW II Pilot watch. Kong

Fantastic story..looking foward to see how it develops..
