Got my first bad scratch

 By: Zeitstuck : October 27th, 2020-09:38
So I got my first bad scratch on my saxonia moon phase. By way of disclaimer, I don't treat my watches as safe queens. Quite the opposite. I wear my watches. This watch in particular is probably my most worn watch this calendar year. And I don't mind all ...

good to know, thanks! [nt]

Pleasure. [nt]

 By: Zeitstuck : October 27th, 2020-11:16

that's reassuring! [nt]

Keep it as new

 By: Weems@8 : October 27th, 2020-10:11
I baby my three beloved watches. One watch is not important to secure with, it is my work watch. keep your Lange save and new. ...

I get more joy out of wearing them

 By: Zeitstuck : October 27th, 2020-11:35
but the scratches are the price one pays for that!

Questions

 By: Weems@8 : October 27th, 2020-14:54
Why we buy watches and put ourselves worries about damages. If we do not buy watches, life could be less difficult. In my case it is the complex soul. It want complex time peaces. Keeping my watches crips, is living on eggs. I used to it to life careful w...

Good to know. Thanks! [nt]

You have scratches

 By: watch-er : October 27th, 2020-10:34
on the polished areas also. No big deal. Wear and enjoy. Only you know they are there and if you have the case refinished at service they will just reappear again.

yeah, i'll see how I feel with the passage of time

 By: Zeitstuck : October 27th, 2020-11:18
The polished scratches don't bother me at all. The only way to avoid those is to now wear the watch. Just the location of this one hurt more. Thanks for input

I also agree

 By: Zeitstuck : October 27th, 2020-11:38
Watches are meant to be worn. It's the location of the scratch that bothers me more than the fact it is scratched. Maybe it is unrealistic to think that brushed surface stays clean looking..

Good advice

 By: Zeitstuck : October 27th, 2020-12:25
"Don't be so hasty", as Treebeard would say. I will do the same. Hopefully it will bother me less

On my computer screen your picture is actually

 By: redbox : October 27th, 2020-11:45
10 times larger than the watch. In real life no one will notice it. Just like the first scratch on a new car. Relax and enjoy you beautiful watch.

That is a highly unrealistic expectation

 By: Brandon Skinner : October 27th, 2020-11:56
Whether polished or brushed, the metal is identical. Brushed probably does a better job of obscuring the scratches but it should scratch all the same.

hah, i said bad, not deep

 By: Zeitstuck : October 27th, 2020-12:30
It's all relative

thanks for the tip! [nt]

 By: Zeitstuck : October 27th, 2020-14:50

Wait until you have 5 years worth of scratches.

 By: Bill : October 27th, 2020-13:18
And then enjoy it for another five years. Builds character and history. You can tell a cool story about each scratch. In the end if you fall out of love and will let the watch go let tye new owner polish it and he can then begin his journey. Enjoy it.

Time heals all wounds :-) [nt]

I too would say wait a while to see if it really still bothers you.

 By: Jay (Eire) : October 27th, 2020-14:09
And, having had some experience with this your watch will come back perfect if you decided to have them clean it up for you.

that is reassuring. Thanks!

 By: Zeitstuck : October 27th, 2020-14:52
I will wait and see how I feel in a few days/weeks

Sorry to ear about your scratch on this nice watch...

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : October 27th, 2020-14:12
At least it looks like you have alternative to have it repair by ALS. I had a similar scratch on one of my watch and it bugged me so much I sent it to service...still waiting to get it back but am glad I did

That service watch hiatus is annoying but

 By: Zeitstuck : October 27th, 2020-14:55
Distance makes the heart grow fonder! Yea, I will keep the repair option in my back pocket and see if it still bothers me with the passage of time. Thanks

Sounds like a plan. Good luck [nt]

Something mechanically needs to be fixed and Lange will bring back to new both aesthetically and mechanically. Enjoy until service. They say every five years but I services one of my Lange’s after 9 years and mechanically it was actually still fine. I jus...

Thanks, that is very reassuring

 By: Zeitstuck : October 28th, 2020-11:46
I will try to just forget about it and enjoy it til it needs to go in

Personally, I never touch case blemishes (scratches, dings, etc.), even when getting a watch serviced. I enjoy these hallmarks of ownership, whether from me or from a prior owner, that accumulate over time. When I send a watch in for servicing, I want the...

Yea, I wasn't going to make it a DYI project. I have Cape Cod cloths that someone game me as a gift but never used them. By in large I am in the same camp as you. I have a whole bunch of scratches on all my watches. It's part and parcel with owning and ac...

Also sorry to see that scratch, hope you sort it.

On a side note and apologies for sidetracking the topic of your thread but I found it interesting to read your comment about Lange not making their watch cases. I was under the impression their manufactory was totally integrated. Who makes their cases?

You are correct

 By: Zeitstuck : November 27th, 2020-16:41
Lange doesn’t make their own cases. Various people make cases for them. You can tell by looking at the sponsor mark on the case back. The case for my watch was made by Audemars Piguet (sponsor mark CO)

Lange case manufacturers: SUG=SUG/Sinn, CO=Centror/AP, FT=Efteor, db=Donzé-Baume

 By: CR : November 27th, 2020-18:08
For the most part, Lange makes movements.

👍🏼
