The quintessential Dress Watch - Which One?

Nov 11, 2022,16:35 PM

It’s been a while. Hope all my Purist Friends are happy, healthy and getting ready for a wonderful holiday season!

I am considering one of these, and am torn. I have owned a few 1815 in the past, but never a VC. The previous 1815’s were sold while I was chasing something else. But I have settled down with that, so the timing is better to add one of these beautiful Rose Gold pieces. I’ve always been drawn to blue hands with printed numerals, but the VC dial is insanely attractive as well. Both have pleasing sub dial layout, both approx 38 mm x 8 mm, both with stunning movements to admire and both from well respected Manufacturers. But which one??

The 1815 is 1815, where the VC is timeless.

Very hard to decide! The VC is a bit "sportier", more masculine, where the Lange is pure poetry, very calm and gentle. The play with light and shadow on the VC is also superior to the Lange. Sorry, but if not both ... I can't decide! 😃

Two excellent timepieces. There's no wrong decision. The privilege of choosing is entirely yours because you are the one who will wear it.

My best advice is to choose the one that best fits your personality, lifestyle and overall sense of style.

I have to go VC...

...but it's difficult to articulate the reasons. If I could I'd get both, but the VC has a sharper look to it...a bit more modern for lack of a better word...

Cannot go wrong with either.

Good luck!

I love both of these watches, but for me there's actually no contest

1815. The VC is a wonderfully subtle watch, but that rose gold 1815 is just breathtaking. 1815 dial and hands just leap out at you in a way that the VC, I think, doesn't. I look at the VC straight on and think, "Yes, everything is just as it should be." I...

This VC always

One of my all time favorites

Love Lange but in this case.....

I'd go with that VC.

The 1815 shown in the pic

Is the 1st gen - 36mm.. the current 38.5mm has a different look.. thinner bezel + railway min track closer to bezel.. seems like minor changes but does change the look of the watch

Very keen observation

To my eye, the biggest differences of 36 vs 38.5 mm are 1) the blued steel hands instead of the rose gold hands and 2) the stepped semicircle on the dial instead of none. After closer reexamination of that pic, it appears you are correct. Perhaps the owne...

It could be YG

The 36mm 1815 YG came with blue hands.

Personalily I'll chose 1815, the movement looks better.

Actually I never know why vc does not use free sprung balance.

👍🏻

Truth be told

Don’t don’t think that photos are important but the way these two watches once worn make YOU feel is what matters. Whist the VC exudes class and taste, the 1815 would make me feel better in the long run. Honey gold preferred however.

Both are great pieces...
