The “dead donkey”

 By: Darron : November 27th, 2022-19:55
As those in the “know”… the OEM box for Langematik Perpetual doubles as a winder for the piece and tips the scales at a hefty 7 kgs…hence its moniker “the dead donkey.” This bulk is so prohibitive that many sets don’t come with the winder, but just come w...

Too funny!!!

That's a good feature for a perpetual calendar, as you won't have to et your calendar if you don't wear your watch, BUT...

I am not in favor of these winders. I prefer setting the calendar, and giving the watch some rest.

Wear and tear or just for the pleasure to set them up?

What I think, indeed.

Me too!

Yes… I am with you.. and that is why I was

Insistent to get the LP with 10:00 pusher..so I can put the watch down… let the PR run it’s course and pick it up in a week or two and not have to re-set everything via toothpick or manually advance through the crown by going through the days (which curre...

That's it.

Very cool I must say

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : November 27th, 2022-20:16

How is it that some sets come with it and others don’t?

 By: ArmisT : November 27th, 2022-21:07
If it’s an OEM packaging then shouldn’t all such pieces be sold with this? Or is it an additional cost that you have the choice to take or leave? Thanks.

I imagine people have kept them when they sold off their pieces

Or as time went on they stopped including them for cost savings. Like companies going from folding clasp to pin buckle.

TCF, Lange still ship their new LPs with this winder

 By: Darron : November 27th, 2022-22:26
But the LP is actually discontinued now (but they still have some limited versions still available I believe).

That is still interesting…to TCF’s point, that would still be quite the added cost to the company to include this with their LPs.

Unless there is a significance to ALS insisting on doing so. I don’t know what others like PP or AP give with their perpetuals, so this may be a standard practice of some sort.🤔

Hi Armis, I purchased my LP pre owned

 By: Darron : November 27th, 2022-22:24
As this model is discontinued… my comment is more towards those that are looking for complete sets; many times the sellers don’t want to ship the watch with the heavy winder (high insurance high weight) = high expense. All new Lange LP come with this wind...

You also got the best version 1 with pusher advance 👍

 By: TeutonicCarFan : November 27th, 2022-22:42
If I remember correctly, they removed this because of inadvertent advances. But I think it is the smartest feature on a PC. If I was interested in a perpetual, this is a top contender. As for shipping, I agree the prices to ship are going up, and collecto...

Yup, you are correct. Lange removed the physical

 By: Darron : November 27th, 2022-23:39
Pusher button. But to be clear, this synchronized advance still exists on all Lange perpetual and annual calendars… but require the stylus or toothpick. Yeah this extra accessories are nice but for me it’s more for completeness, than actual useful ness ...

I believe this was a false rumor, that Lange removed the pusher due to inadvertent advances.

 By: CR : November 27th, 2022-23:49
I only ever heard that from one source, and it never made any sense to me on its face. It'd be very hard to push this button accidentally. It's hard enough to push on purpose! I've never met any Langematik Perpetual owner who complained about accidental p...

Yea seems silly

 By: TeutonicCarFan : November 28th, 2022-01:22
But I have definitely heard it on an interview on YouTube, just can't remember which or where. Regardless it is unfortunate because that is such a great way to interact with a perpetual without needing any "tools"

Agreed!

So glad you got this beautiful first generation Langematik Perpetual winder, which was made by Scatola!

 By: CR : November 28th, 2022-00:47
Subsequent versions (Gen2 and Gen3) looked nice too, but were different, smaller, and not made by Scatola. Lange never disclosed who made the Gen2 and Gen3 winders or where they were made, as far as I know. Here's a 2005 thread comparing the Gen1 and Gen2...

Craig! It’s good to know I am re-hashing

 By: Darron : November 28th, 2022-05:02
What you are already explained 17 years ago 😂🤦‍♂️

Oh, I was just rehashing what a preowned dealer told me at the time, lol! :)

 By: CR : November 28th, 2022-15:58
Again, I'm glad you got it! It's a fun, interesting accessory to have with the watch.

Love Scatola winders.
