great sadness to read of your loss.

We too have just lost a 14 year old dog - black labradour called Mouse (Bred as a gundog, he was originally called Grouse. but our then 3 year old grandson changed it to Mouse). He had been with us since he was 4 months old, and shared our home with 7 other dogs, all Jack Russell terriers rescued over the years from some very dark places. We miss him like hell, But about 3 weeks ago, another Jack Russell year old bitch called Daisy turned up on our property. She wore a collar with her name and a phone number, which I called and left a message. When the owner called back. virtually her first words were " Would you like to keep her? "
And so we are back up to 8 dogs, which with the exhorbitant vets' bills in the UK is why I have a very modest watch collection!
Mouse lies beneath a tree my wife bought to mark his grave. And - I know this sounds a bit weird - sometimes late on our summer evenings I wander out and ' talk ' to him, telling him about the new dog and what's been happening generally etc.
So I know only too well how you must be feeling. You have our deepest sympathy.
Colin
