Great point on the service - any experience on the forum with a Zeitwerk service cost?

Difficult decision...

 By: CrookedOak : April 21st, 2021-11:31
I am blessed with the good fortune of adding a new A. Lange & Söhne to my collection. I am torn between the Zeitwerk (140.029) and the 1815 Chronograph (414.028). I would ultimately like to add both references to my small collection, but can only add ...

Zeitwert. Though both are gorgeous, the Zeitwerk is an image for what A. Lange represents.

To make your Lange collection more rounded and complete I’d suggest to switch the Darth for a Datograph. Exit.

Excuse me for not understanding.

But what does switching from Darth to Datograph exit mean please?

I think he means switch the black dial Lange 1 for a black dial Datograph.

“Exit” may just mean the collection is complete... “done”

As darrony said. :) [nt]

I second the Recommendation to change out one of the lange 1 for a datograph... then you keep the big date and get the Chrono and the movement that looks like a little city...

 By: Darron : April 23rd, 2021-23:39
Of course the Dato is bulkier and although the dial layout is perfectly planned to proportion I would argue the 1815 case shape is indeed better proportioned. Than get the ZW 😀... or vice versa

Great collection. 👍

Another vote for the Zeitwerk. 😍

There’s no wrong decision here.

I own one Lange, the 1815 Chrono, which is a recent acquisition and a spectacular piece. Among its great qualities, I find the pushers are the best I’ve ever experienced. But candidly I did initially gravitate to the Zeitwerk. I would just recommend that ...

Given what you already have, Zeitwerk.

If you didn't already have the 1815 Up/Down, I'd say Chrono. But adding the Zeitwerk to your current line up really makes your collection come full circle. Congrats on the difficult decision, btw.

Exactly my thoughts

Similar boat

I recently got in with my first Lange. I was between the 1815 Up Down and 1815 Chrono. I went Up Down. I'm very happy, but still really admire the Chrono. Given that I have my Up Down, in my mind, I can no longer consider the 1815 Chrono, and have to just...

I can understand that.

 By: Brandon Skinner : April 21st, 2021-15:48
Considering the OP’s collection, we can see he has the Richard Lange and the 1815 UD. Dial side, put those two watches together and you have the 1815 Chrono. Of course the reverse side is a different story. If it were me I would probably trade in the 1815...

Agreed!

Always fun to spend other people's money, lol.

you have a nice L&S collection.

 By: patrickh : April 21st, 2021-12:40
I will suggest to add the Zeitwerk as it is an incredible model & unique in High Horology. And maybe think later to switch your 1815 up & down for the 1815 chronograph (calibre & soft chrono pushers). Whatever your decision, congratulations ++++

One more for Zeitwerk

 By: Zeitstuck : April 21st, 2021-12:48
Between the two, it will round out your collection a little better. And agree with comments above, make sure you've tried on and it's to your taste with regards to "wearablity"

Thanks for the response.

 By: CrookedOak : April 21st, 2021-12:59
The Zeitwerk suits my tastes (it is stunning - front and back), but my concern was wearing it all day (weight, height, balance etc.). It is easy to love in the showroom, but appreciate the feedback on a full day wear.

If it were just a choice between the two

 By: matto1 : April 21st, 2021-12:55
I would select the chrono, but looking at your collection of ALS the Zeitwerk may be a better addition. Would be nice to try both on prior to the final pick. Very nice collection, BTW!

Given your collection and your plans, I would go for the Zeitwerk first. Later, I would buy the Chrono but maybe in a different color combination, to add a little bit of diversity.

 By: 1WatchMan : April 21st, 2021-12:58
I don't own any (would love to own both though), but I tried on the Zeitwerk recently. It's spectacular, but wears big on the wrist. Much larger and taller than your other watches. I see it as a positive thing, different to your other ones. But depending ...

1815 for me

 By: aperna : April 21st, 2021-14:07

Zeitwerk. You have a perfectly diverse ALS

 By: Gelato Monster : April 21st, 2021-15:21
If you want to add flavors and if I may suggest Flip the 1815 up down with 1815 Chrono Black PG or Boutique depending on your preference. Flip grand lange 1 with Datograph Lumen

I vote for Zeitwerk.

 By: toddg : April 21st, 2021-15:57
I would be sure to try both on. I have the Zeitwerk, and absolutely love it. It is truly unique. Even my non-watch loving friends are amazed by it. As one said "I don't know what that watch is, but its the coolest watch I have ever seen." But, it is a big...

I'm biased towards the Zeitwerk

 By: Metachronous : April 21st, 2021-16:16
Naturally the 1815 Chrono will generally wear easier, as it’s smaller and lighter. However, if you opt for the Zeitwerk, I’d suggest getting the single folding deployant, as this will act as a good counterweight - the Zeitwerk wears well on that arrangeme...

ZW!

 By: mj23 : April 21st, 2021-16:41

excellent idea. totally +1

 By: Gelato Monster : April 22nd, 2021-22:05

I’d go with the chrono

 By: rnaden : April 21st, 2021-21:04
While the Zeitwerk is special and so different, I personally think the classic proportions and look of the chrono and the beautiful movement behind will stand the test of time much better.

first thing first...impressive collection of Lange you've got !

 By: mahesh : April 21st, 2021-23:35
IMHO Zeitwerk will be a good choice because it is unusually original design and it is mechanically challenging complication. You've good collection of dress watch, so a dress chrono will not be adding a big diversity unless you're a doctor & 1815 pulsatio...

A nice problem to have!

 By: Gibraltar : April 22nd, 2021-09:17
These are both great watches. In isolation I would pick the 1815 first because I think that chronograph movement is even more iconic Lange than the Zeitwerk. Considering the rest of your collection though I'd go for the Zeitwerk for sure, and maybe a Dato...

What a super Lange collection already. Re the question, another vote for the ZW.

 By: Jay (Eire) : April 22nd, 2021-22:44
I wouldn’t be too concerned about weight, case size and how it sits on your wrist would be the key. If it works, go for it. It will likely never be an everyday watch solely based on what it is.

Without a doubt the Zeitwerk

 By: DRV83 : April 23rd, 2021-20:05
In my opinion the best

I am inclined towards the ZW

 By: walidk : April 23rd, 2021-22:12
with the caveat that its not a good watch to wear on a frequent basis: I can only speak for myself, but I am 6'4 with biggish wrists and found it uncomfortable for pro-longed wear of more than a few hours. The 1815 chrono, however, is a beautiful and emin...

1815 Chrono for me...

 By: KonaJ : April 23rd, 2021-22:55
Mine gets as much or more wrist time as any other watch. Great on the golf course, at work or a night on the town.

Zeitwerk

 By: yming : April 24th, 2021-03:59
Considering the rest of your collection : - eg the 1815 up down has a similar style to the 1815 chrono - and perhaps later on you may end up debating the 1815 chrono vs datograph

Zeitwerk

 By: m2 : April 24th, 2021-19:29
Zeitwerk is a lot more interesting IMO due to the complication. Of course the dato is a classic, but movement side of the Zeitwerk is absolutely insane. Especially with the remontoire action! I have owned mine for a bit over a year and decided to sell it ...

And the final choice is...

 By: CrookedOak : April 29th, 2021-17:48
The Zeitwerk. I absolutely love both watches, but the Zeitwerk captures the imagination and is so different than anything in my collection that it made the decision easy once I tried it on. I greatly appreciate all of the insight, feedback and comments th...
