Congrats, Gatsby!

First and foremost, I hope you continue to enjoy the fabulous timepiece for many years to come.

Almost all of your preferences resonate with me. I too prefer the older movement with the two sub-bridges. I would much rather look at that movement than the newer Lange movement. I also enjoy watching the date gradually change, which to me is more interesting in a mechanical watch than an instantaneous jump.

I remember when the 101.029 was released. Many thought of it as a "Lange 1 sports watch" designed to appeal to a younger, more physically active demographic. I've never owned that reference but always thought it was one of the coolest Lange 1 references out there. Lange did a great job with it. And personally, I like your 38.5mm version much more than the Grand Lange 1 version of the same watch (115.029), which has overlapping subdials and was introduced at about the same time (slightly later, c.2004).

Perhaps you can refresh my memory about this. Lange's luminous watches typically lose their glow pretty quickly. I don't recall if the lume glow lasted any longer than usual with the 101.029. If you "charge" your dial by exposing it to very bright light and then you put it in a darkened room, approximately how much time passes until it becomes very difficult or impossible to see the time?

Congrats again -- and it looks great on that strap, too!

Why I chose the Lange One Luminous ref. 101.029

 By: Mr.Gatsby : May 24th, 2020-02:19
So I’m terribly late to the party but thankfully enough, the boat hasn’t sailed yet. I guess there’s an afterparty after all Ever since I’ve collected watches 10-15 years ago, I always recognized A. Lange & Sohne from its iconic Lange 1 and Datograph seri...

Thanks for this great post, and huge congrats, my dear friend. This Lange One blends coolness and elegance.

I am not for luminous hands and indices on elegant watches, in general, but here it works. Here is a shot I took at the SIHH a bit more than 10 years ago. Enjoy! Nicolas ...

Looks very nice on your wrist Nico

Thanks for sharing that memory. What are your favorite Lange One references and why? Hope to see more photos and discussions. I kinda have a feeling the L1s will turn out to be like the vintage Rolex subs. In 20-30 years time they might be gain wider inte...

Ref. 101.035 aka “Darth”

 By: Mr.Gatsby : May 24th, 2020-03:21
I am curious how it got it’s Darth Vader moniker. I personally feel it is too elegant to be called Darth lol 😂

Congrats

Great write up, was a pleasure to read. I also evolved in my watch collecting over the years. For me though when I decided to move into the PP, FPJ, VC, etc of the world, I chose ALS and the Dato U/D PT as my first. ...

You've gone straight for the heavyweight ;-)

Thank you for this post, which is more than just sharing a watch. You’ve also allowed us to peak into your personal watch journey and the way you’re thinking and building your collection. As far as the L1 is concerned; magnificent piece. Not for me person...

Thanks Jurry

I really find a lot of enjoyment in discussing about the watches here. Also, incorporating the views of other collectors help me to better appreciate and further refine the collecting process. You know the saying (which has come in numerous interpretation...

Thank you my friend

Indeed the journey is often more valuable than the ultimate goal. Although I must admit that building my company was quit a journey, but when we sold it lock stock and barrel (thus arrived at destination so to speak) the reward was quit welcome as well ha...

Totally understand what you are saying

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jurry, very interesting indeed. Agree full heartedly about the part where you enjoyed cashing in on the biz haha.

A very special Lange!

I always had a weak spot for the L1 in general, and for the Luminous specifically. While some see the sporty character of the Luminous as not really appropriate for the elegant L1, I always thought it to be a cool, and very well executed, casual theme tha...

Thanks Daniel

I’m so glad you find the watch to your liking. I concur we share the same taste then

I like this, I really do,

This would be my go to after the traditional Lange 1 in Rose gold.

I am in love with the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase.

 By: K-Lo : May 24th, 2020-05:36
Drool...... If they update the moonphase to be more elegant and have more Stars, I am toast, literally!!!!!

Great post

Thank you for sharing your story. I too love the L1. You have a beauty. I love the black dial with white gold/platinum background but felt the grande Lange 1 (where the black dial is more prevalent) didn’t fit my wrist as well as the traditional L1 so I w...

The original luminous is a great piece.

A lot of character, and rare and desirable IMO. Congratulations on obtaining one. Looks great on your wrist. Cheers, John

Great to hear your thoughts, and thinking behind this one.

As others have said hearing other’s logic or reasoning (maybe those are wrong word choices) behind an acquisition is always very interesting. I can relate to having a piece that sits there on the radar for several years yet never seems to get the nod as o...

Really appreciate your words. The Darth is a beautiful piece. I must say after getting the 101.029 it has hardly left my wrist. There is so much pleasure in strapping it on. I’m in awe with myself and the extent of how much I enjoy it. I guess I feel ther...

I always admire your Lange1 Mr.Gatsby

IMHO its style of hour&second circumference dial is. Very artistic, radiantly exciting yet charismatic and rich. Nonetheless the 101.035 Platinum Black is dark, brute handsome gorgeous aristocrat . Its black date makes it innocently clean yet vicious. I d...

I had to look up Dorian Gray

 By: Mr.Gatsby : May 26th, 2020-09:19
Not sure if I can relate to that character though LOL. But totally get what you say thanks for your words mate

My apology, it is just my funny comparison between the two gothic model.

 By: Gelato Monster : May 26th, 2020-22:04
I wasnt thinking about relating the character to whoever owns each.

Don’t be silly old sport ;-)

Nothing to be sorry about. And definitely OK with me to draw parallels of these watches to fictitious or even real people.

Congrats, Gatsby!

CR, I concur the L1’s lume is better than my PAM

 By: Mr.Gatsby : May 26th, 2020-09:52
PAM 959 that is. Arbitrarily it is about 30% better, and both were not charged up. Kinda disappointed in the PAM to be honest.

Huge congrats!!
