Limited Production Dato vs Patek 5990

Hi guys - I’m considering swapping out my Patek 5990 for the ALS below. (With diamond bezel) Interested in the comments / Ideas or should I keep the 5990 as maybe it’s the new watch fever that’s getting to me... The als seems more value but the hype on th...

ALS is better but...

The diamonds are a complete deal killer IMO. Pretty bad aesthetic fit for what Lange is going for? YMMV. If they don't bother you then I think the Lange is an objectively better watch.

Personally I like the Lange more than the Patek

I'm not so into diamonds, but if that's your thing, go for the Lange. It's the more interesting watch. Regards, George

I Saw a post similar like this

and the popular answer was to change your wife so you can keep both . kidding aside I don't like the 5990 but it seems to be a popular (hard to get ) model now. If you don't wear the 5990 anymore then maybe time to change it?

You probably have ridden some nice upside on the 5990 - maybe time to cash in your chips

I am not a big fan of that reference (too bulky to my taste - it completely lost the plot vs. the original slenderness of the Nautilus). The ALS is stunning! As diamonds go, baguette is the way to go for men!

Diamonds?

No way.

ALS and Patek are both great, depending on which reference.

However, I do not like the 5990 very much, and I would choose the dato, but not with the diamonds. Personally I think the diamonds kill everything. Why not change it to the normal dato up/down and have some money into the pocket? Just don't let your wife ...

Purely based on person subjective preference I would choose the ALS but...

They are both great watch and the 5990 give you also the option to wear with bracelet. Not sure if bracelet vs strap is important for you...

I would cash out the PP

and buy a regular Data (no diamonds) and a diamond ring for wife for the delta. Build up your credit history with the wife for the next watch purchase!

Diamonds on a Dato does not seem like the best way to “spend” your 5990 dollars.

No question about which is more interesting from a horological perspective though, Dato wins easy.

It seems that I would be in the minority but I do like this version of the dato.

I have seen it at the boutique and the bezel is much more subtle than one might think. It provides a different frame to the standard version and as you said you can't scratch it. Now if you could find the lumen at price close to retail, that would be a di...

I also think the diamonds

Make it a nice very dressy watch. I have the dato perpetual, lange makes an amazing watch. U won't regret it.

I would go for the ALS

Just because i think it looks awsome with that diamond bezel . Would love to have a watch like that in my collection

No diamonds

No way on the diamonds doesn’t even make sense of 5990 it’s a sport watch that will hold it’s value and is classic. Diamonds will just bother you in the long run. Don’t know the difference in pricing between diamonds versus no diamonds but I bet it’s a bi...

Not a bad choice! [nt]

Very surprising ;-)

As for me the 5990 is far too bulky for a Nautilus and completely overrated it would have been a no brainer for me, even when I prefer the non diamond version. The Pepsi is a nice watch (for list price) indeed
